More on Lafu's younger bro - Max Tuioti-Mariner (Corona)

Greg Biggins
Rivals.com Football Recruiting

Talk about it in the Message Boards
The California class of offensive lineman in 2008 could be the strongest we can remember in some time. Already, eight players have been offered early scholarships and at least five from the group could be top 100 players nationally. Included in that group is Corona (Calif.) Max Tuioti-Mariner.

Cali OL Max Tuioti-Mariner has three offers and counting right now
Tuioti-Mariner attended the NIKE Combine in Long Beach last weekend and physically, looked like a college player already. He measured in at a solid 6-4, 300 pounds and just has the look of someone you would not want to come across in a dark alley.

The lineman was nursing a sore hamstring and didn't run or jump but did do 26 reps on the bench, good enough for 6th best in the camp of over 740 players.

On film, Tuioti-Mariner just destroys people and he earned 1st team all-league, all-area and all-state underclass honors this past season. Three schools have offered with several more on the way.

"Colorado, BYU and Mississippi have offered me right now," Tuioti-Mariner said. "My coach said a lot of other schools are close to offering as well but those are the ones that have offered in writing.

"Right now, I like Hawaii, Cal, UCLA, USC and Oregon. My brother Clarence plays at Hawaii so that's why I like them.
Cal, UCLA and USC are all strong in-state programs and I've heard nothing but great things about Oregon.

"I want to take some trips before I make my decision. I'm not in any hurry to decide right now. I don't know if I'll take all five trips or wait until Signing Day but I do want to take my time."

Panther coach John Brandom said his lineman could be as good as any player in the state.

"I can't imagine there being a football player," Brandom said. "Max is so tough and physical, when schools see his highlight tape, everyone will offer him. Honestly, I can't see a single school coming by here and deciding not to offer, he's that good.

"We've have players here go to UCLA, Colorado, Washington, Max is the best player I've ever coached. He's technically sound and combines that with a ferocious style of play. I have film of pancaking two and three players on the same play.

"Coach Wristen from UCLA was here yesterday. He watched five plays of Max and told me to take the tape out, he had seen enough and said they're going to offer as soon as he shows the tape to Karl (Dorrell).

"Oregon and Arizona are also close to offering but like I said, he'll have about 20 offers in the next few weeks when schools get a look at him, he's that good."

aloha,

Regarding Ryan Eastman from St. Louis, we just got back from the US Army National Combine in San Antonio which featured 500 of the top athletes from the class of 2008 in January. Along with us we had Ikaika Cavaco-Amoy, Steven Donohue, Tui Tuiasosopo, Mana Greig from Saint Louis, and Kahaikolu Pescaia from Kamehameha.

The boys all did great, with Tui taking 2nd in the bench with 34 reps at 185 lbs. Also Ryan Eastman and Kahaikolu Pescaia tied for 4th with 29 reps at 185 lbs. Donohue was was of the leaders with a 36" vertical jump.

Ryan is currently 6' (the weekly massages/stretching are helping), 250 lbs, ran a 4.6 Shuttle, with a 26" vertical, is repping 315 lbs. on the bench, squatting 495 lbs. for reps, and leg pressing 1190 lbs. for 6 reps., and deadlifting 500 lbs. off the floor. Along with Donohue and Cavaco-Amoy, Ryan is also training with the Varsity Track team when he is not doing his 'crossfit' training program. He is looking at DT/DE and also LB if the coaches will let him. He is a Men's State Singles Novice and C Division Racquetball Champion, and that is where he gets his lateral quickness.

The Crusaders should be in good shape by the time the season rolls around. Both the OIA and ILH will have a great 2008 class!!

mahalo for reading

Hey Bulla- is Ryan your son? If he is, Who are the Junior's on Saint Louis's roster that has the greatest potential academically & football wise to go Divsion 1 on a scholarship? Begin w/Defense, then Offense if you don't mind.

ok, the secret is out, he's my son......let me go over the roster from last year and give you a calculated list of the possibilities that are out there. right off the top of my head, i know that it is going to be mind boggling with the number of players going on to college, Division I will be at least 8.....that's thinking out loud.

let me work on that list for you, and mahalo for asking.

a hui hou,

Yah! you're that good....lol lol...  I also saw from an old posts "HAIA commented on Ryan & was actually defending him in another post by the infamous duckslut"....Good job Bulla, Ryan seems like a fine young man, not too mention STRONG! He reminds me of that kid Ana from Saint Louis. Hey Bulla, tell your son keep up the good work. I like to hear stories of the underdog Ahtlete, it warms my heart.
