In Trump's effort to improve his response image is touting the chloroquine as the miracle drug against the coronavirus. However, any medication can be used to treat illnesses but it should be prescribed. So, for those who try to self medicate, do diligent research.
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/26/trumps- ... -work.html
The drug was touted by a Florida man who claims recovery from coronavirus and pneumonia and the story was covered by the LA Times. Subsequently a 60 year old couple in Arizona took a form of chloroquine that they used in their fish bowl and subsequently the husband died, wife in hospital although they had no symptoms. If you want medication, the best thing to do is to get it from the doctor.

i personally hate this thread and was trying to stay away, but going to comment on this post.

this video creator is a super sketchy source. they report random twitter users' easily photoshop-able conspiracy theories as 'proof'.
the nyt and story about the silenced doctor you post later are better.

Thank you ubercow for keeping this thread open because it serves to vent frustrations that people feel because of the coronavirus. Although it might be potentially toxic, I believe that as long as people keep their discussions civil, it serves a purpose. There is enough angry feelings at the supermarkets, on the streets and in public places and this is actually a safe place to discuss intellectually what they feel is happening. I appreciate you and the other administrators in their efforts in keeping this site a top notch site. I've seen terrible postings on social media and comments to articles that make this site pretty classy.

I'll try to be careful, Ubercow. Readers should make their own judgement on the validity of any argument.

Bill Gates just completed a part in a CNN Town-hall meeting and pretty much made the case for no early reopening. A pandemic has always been a concern of his and his foundation has been working to confront such a problem for many years. You may not like CNN but Gates is the one doing the talking and he is very credible.

I read a few articles stating that the White house is suing TV stations over a negative ad they are running regarding Trump's handling of the pandemic in America. Of course, I then had to research the ad. When questioned about what the ad creator thought made the president disagree with the ad, the ad creator said, "well, I guess it does something the president is unfamiliar with: it tells the truth."

As a political strategy, I think this ad will be ineffective. It's too early in the election process for most Americans to remember. Shock ads work best just before the actual polling. However, it rings true to what I remember.

Another thing that I picked up on from this news piece, and many others, is Trump's use of random administration officials that have nothing to do with public health. Why is Betsy DeVoss seen in so many of the announcements? She is in charge of public education but advocates private charter schools.

What a unique idea. Trump is finally using the DPA to force GM to make ventilators.

I just watched a fact check of Trump's bs. Trump has not used the DPA. He only talked about using it. His latest line is that this is all Obama's fault. He put a whack-o economist in charge of addressing the problem of ventilators and that appointee seems completely clueless.

So only now they're thinking about doing temperature testing at the airport. Should have been doing it from the beginning. It may not catch everyone but even if it catches a small portion of people, that helps. The politicians ask us to do our part but they sure are slow to do their part.

We're an isolated island, the only way the virus is going to get here is someone off a boat or plane. They should have been testing everyone coming off a boat or plane from the beginning. Man, our Gov is slow to react.

Is this politics at it's worse? Sounds like Michigan is being denied PPE because of disapproval of the Michigan governor.

I don't know if they changed the article you linked to but the current article states that they are approved. Trump is as immature as they come.

Sorry, it seems like there's been a disagreement between the Governor and the President for a while.

Lots of gamesmanship by possibly both parties while people are suffering and possibly dying.

Sad that the political BS can't be put aside on both sides. Just goes to show that neither side really cares about the American people.

Same thing happened during Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana's governor (a Democrat) hated Bush Jr. Party politics is slowly and literally destroying this country.

GW ignored the financial peril which unfolded during his 2 term presidency. Now, this fiasco is all on Trump. He is the one who chose to politicize it. First, he denied that it was going to be a threat to America. I can guess that he was worried about the appearance of the economy. He then attempted to use the early news to put down the democrats claiming that it was just a hoax created to upset his re-election. Now, he's blaming Obama and has ineptly handled the logistics.
