I Nearly Died of the Flu in My 50s
“Before I got really sick, I didn’t believe in the flu shot.”

Last year, just before my 52nd birthday, I got the flu and spent more than a week in a medically-induced coma. The doctors
couldn’t promise my husband that I’d survive. I was so sick that I ended up staying in the hospital for 25 days.
The thing is, before this happened to me, I didn’t think the flu was a big deal. I’d never even gotten a flu shot. As an international
flight attendant for almost 30 years, I’d flown all over the world and had never come down with a bad illness before. I thought I was
indestructible. But I was wrong.

Re: Flu Shot
Thanks for posting this Kailuaboy. I'm sure that there are a lot of people out there who don't get the flu shot. I do every year. One year, I joked to my doctor that maybe I shouldn't take the shot so that I could get the flu and lose some weight but he was horrified and said don't do that.

Re: Flu Shot
The flu shot seems to work better after you have had 3 yearly shots. This is because the many varieties of flu virus and yearly flu vaccines are made up from what is predicted to be the prevalent variety prior to flu season which is when you need to be vaccinated and which they are often very off from what happens. But the other years seems to carry over and after 3 you maintain a titre to a variety of flu viruses well that is the guess about it anyway
