How does Tesla build its cars? We'll show you

Join us for a 360-degree tour of Tesla's Fremont Factory, where every Model S

If you've ever seen a Model S or a Model X on the road, this is where it came from. This is Tesla Fremont,
the factory that was formerly a joint effort between Toyota and General Motors. Called NUMMI (New United
Motor Manufacturing, Inc.) the factory was, at its peak, valued at $1.3 billion dollars. After its bankruptcy
in 2008, Tesla snatched the place up for just $42 million.

Want to Live? Stay Away from Semi-Trucks

Driving near a tractor trailer on a highway is not a good idea. They demand your respect. Here's why.

After two race weekends in a row, I wasn't particularly shocked by the cloud of dust and debris that appeared
without warning a few hundred feet in front of me. Nor was I surprised by the cars swerving left and right away
from it like cockroaches exposed to a sudden flashlight. In fact, it took me almost a full second to process the
fact that I was on the freeway, not the track. My race car was twenty feet behind me on an open-deck trailer,
and I was about to have an interesting exercise in getting that trailer slowed down and out of the lane without
losing control.

So what was going on ahead of me to cause all this chaos, if it wasn't a car going off-track? The answer was in
the air, flying towards my windshield: a five-foot long section of truck tire.

Here Are the Five Things You Should Never Do in a Car With a CVT

You might not love CVT-equipped cars, but you should at least know how they work.

Car enthusiasts are known for their disdain of continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), but they actually rock. While it may sound and
feel weird to drive a car with a CVT, they're better than any other transmission at keeping cars in their ideal power band.

They're similar in operation to a traditional torque-converter automatic, but since the CVT uses a fundamentally different design, they
require a different technique. The ever-excellent Jason Fenske over at Engineering Explained goes through the five things you should
never do in a car with a CVT in his latest video.

CVTs are the worst transmissions. They're soulless. CVTs are unreliable. CVTs sound awful. And all
the other things people love to say about an innovative and increasingly popular transmission style.
Are manual transmissions more fun? Absolutely. Are DCT transmissions faster than manuals, thus
acceptable alternatives for high end sports cars? Debatable. But why are CVTs not allowed in this
conversation? Let's look at the math behind CVTs to see why they are truly amazing transmissions.

Some Dealerships Don’t Really Want to Sell You an Electric Car

By Bengt Halvorson
August 24, 2016

A shopper in Texas, looking for the new Chevrolet Volt, was told that there wasn’t one within 1000 miles. At
a California dealership, meanwhile, there were more than 20 Volts in stock, and personnel noted that Chevy’s
plug-in hybrid is their top-selling car—and that it “flies off the lot.”

Both dealership visits were around the same time, this spring, and the shoppers were taking notes on their
experience as part of a broad survey about the electric-car shopping experience, organized by the environmental
organization Sierra Club.

This Is Why You Don't Drive Slow in the Left Lane

Show this to the left-lane dawdlers in your life. If your roads are anything like ours, there's a lot of them.

Lately, states have been cracking down on left-lane drivers. Even though they aren't speeding,
these drivers are still getting tickets, and that can be confusing for them. If you aren't speeding,
you're being safe, right? Of course not.

Vox recently produced a great video (along with a great article) explaining why driving slower than
traffic is dangerous, even if you're doing the speed limit. Specifically, they talk about the left lane,
and its purpose on our highways: Passing, not cruising. For your friends, family members, and
co-workers who still don't get it, go ahead and show them this video. It's necessary viewing.
