Food Thread Present
Where are you favorite food joints now?
Gotta start off with SUSHI BAY in Kapolei. Once you have Sushi Bay, you'll never be happy with Genki, Kurukuru, Aloha, Ninja, Kozo, Sushi Man, etc. I found this place almost three years ago when I purchased a Group On, $15 for $30 or something like that. First time, was just like Genki. I was satisfied because I had the $15 off Group On. The second time was in February of 2012, just after they had new ownership. What a noticable difference. Went back the next night, and the next night, and the next night and the next. Five nights in a row. And this was when no one knew about Sushi Bay so there was no waiting. If you go now, be prepared to wait an hour. But it's worth the wait. Where else you going see locals waiting for an hour to be seated? This place is special.
Next place I like is RUSSO'S in Ewa Beach, on the corner of Ft. Weaver and Keaunui, by Safeway. Went there for the pizza but ended up ordering the best dish I've ever ordered from a restaurant in my life - Spicy Shrimp Alfredo. It was Shrimp Alfredo on a bed of Penne pasta served with sliced jalapenos. I'm not much for fusion food but this was a winning combination. The best.
YAMA'S FISH MARKET - It's bee a long time since I've had yama's but they had the best ahi limu poke and Hawaiian food.
RAINBOW'S DRIVE IN, of course.
PAALAA KAI BAKERY in Waialua. Snow Puffies! Had one last night. Those might be the best dessert on the island.

Lot of places I will eat at but Sushi Bay and Roy's Hawaii Kai are the only ones I'll drive out of my way for.

Roast Duck Kitchen's duck is juicy and succulent. Sold by the 1/2 pound or pound, or in their lunch plate. Gotta get there early enough (after work is too late) because all of the duck will be sold out by then. And yup, second floor behind McDonald's in the little courtyard in back. I haven't tried the Alley yet but my better half likes their food.808Hawaii wrote:I heard that Roast Duck place is good. Second floor I think, yeah? Sometimes we drive to the Alley just to eat dinner. Their ox tail soup is good.

LOCAL KINE GRINDZ in Kaneohe. Order the three piece fried chicken plate and get five pieces - too many to fit in a styrofoam container, they have to give you another bowl. And the chicken is good.

Bob's Big Bear = Boy's Big Boy. It's in Waipahu where Sizzler used to be. Nice breakfast place.
Best cheap breakfast buffet is Koko Cafe in the Hale Koa. It's a military hotel so you need an ID to get in. Currently closed for renovations until middle of January.

Had the ono shoyu chicken from Lum's Inn today for lunch. I usually can only eat half (regular plate size, not the mini) and save the other half for another day, but I got greedy and whacked the whole buggah one time. Time for a nap.
