Apparently his family is from Hawaii.

Salpointe running back David Cordero at first signed with Ottawa University in Surprise, an NAIA school, but has changed his mind to continue his football career at the Division I level with Hawaii.
Cordero, 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, signed with Ottawa on Feb. 15, but will attend Hawaii instead, noting on a social media post Friday, “No love has been lost and I wish them a great season. With that being said, I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to continuing my athletic and academic career at the Division I level at the University of Hawaii.”
He mentioned to AllSportsTucson.com on Friday that his family has a Hawaiian background.
“Me going back home to where my family roots are is crazy, for not only me but for my family,” he stated. “I dreamed of playing in the Aloha Stadium since I was a kid visiting family and now that dream is about to be accomplished. I’m extremely grateful that I am able to attend the University of Hawaii.”
Cordero rushed for 585 yards on 70 carries with three touchdowns in seven games with Salpointe last fall. The season was limited because of COVID-19 protocol.
In his previous two years running behind Bijan Robinson, Cordero rushed for 1,092 yards on 99 carries, an impressive 11.0 yards per carry, with 15 touchdowns.

Ran 11.4/11.5 100 meters as a soph. in 2019. I know nothing about the competition he faced in football, but the films showed that he has some giddyup and vision. And TG loves speed. With Hawaiian roots, he fits right in.

Goes to the same HS as former Warrior Tyler Graunke and former assistant coach Rich Ellerson

I wonder if young Mr Cordero knows that Hawaii won't be playing at Aloha Stadium anytime in his UH career.

Is he related to Cheven? Funny thing I learn on Facebook, seems like half of my high school classmates are related to each other. And it's not that they call each other Braddah or Cuz. Totally unrelated, we seen many names with father-son, or uncle playing football, etc. I don't seem to hear the "Noga" name floating around. None of the Noga kids played or were successful in football?

Maybe, maybe not. Their last names are spelled differently.cabanalane wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:49 am Is he related to Cheven? DC made the most of the PT given to him and should get better come 2024.

Cordero exemplified the "next man up" narrative. Got his chance after being well down the running back roster.
