Landon Sims moved from TE to RB

Post by kapakahi »

2021 RB/LB/Ath. Landon Sims (listed at 6-3, 195#) [son of former UH RB Travis Sims] from Peninsula HS (Gig Harbor, WA.) commits as PWO. Recruited by Victor Santa Cruz (teammates with Travis Sims on the 1992 Holiday Bowl squad).
Chose UH over PWO offer from Rolo at Wazzu. https://twitter.com/Landonsims32/status/1385085292235821057

6'3" RB? Makes me think of a bygone era with names like Eric Dickerson, Eddie George, Chuck Muncie and Calvin Hill off the top of my head. Nice film - he looks like a WR playing RB. Perhaps a future TE? He's got his father's genes, so I would think he can be projected to be a TE. I know I'm showing my age some more because Landon's film reminded me of former Kahuku do-everything WR/athlete Itula Mili, who unfortunately chose BYU and became an outstanding TE - and later played on Sundays for Seattle. I see great things for Landon, and give him a big WELCOME!

Probably projects as a hybrid TE/H-Back.

He doesn't have the Barney Rubble hamstrings that his father had, but give him time!

And check this out about his dad

Interesting that he would chose a PWO from UH rather than Wazzu. I know Travis knows Rolo and Wazzu is in their home state. I also think Wazzu would be much less expensive for an in-State PWO than out of state at UH.

Perhaps he sees that he is a better fit in UH's offensive scheme. Better fit = better potential for scholarship. While I like Rolo, I think Todd Graham > Rolo in coaching and football knowledge/IQ. Besides that, Honolulu is much warmer than Pullman. All speculation on my part, of course.

I like to see guys that understand they got to putting in the work. I hope he get chance to play, on the offensive side.

Or give him a "freebie." Power I for the TD. Beast Mode straight up.

Landon looked smooth and fast running routes in the KHON report. With his RB background, I see a legit YAC-man.

In (JJ's) RNS, Sims would fit nicely because he is bigger/taller.

But currently UH already have a few good RBs. Might be hard to crack that rotation. Then again, let's not forget Travis Sims played behind RB#1A Jamal Farmer. Bob Wagner chose Farmer. Because of Farmer's mistake to "quit the team" did we discover how good Travis Sims was.

Travis Sims was RB#1B. Nice problem UH had at the time. Both were awesome. Debatable, career stats would point to Sims. But IMO Farmer was a "better" RB, perhaps with the wrong team attitude.

So yeah, everyone is just one knee injury away.

Nice size. We could use a big back to block and on short yardage plays. No blocking and our qb is going to get killed. I was hoping for a big powerful back that can move the pile.
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

A few more plate lunches should help. His dad had "Samoan Legs" as people refer to back then. So the DNA is there.

Nasty Nate was skinny when he came to UH.
