New Defensive Coach - Laiu Moeakiola
Adding Laiu is a good touch since the Tongon contingent in Euyless, TX is a significant talent pool.
A few of my Tongan friends moved there to work in the oil fields and theres a large Tongan community.

Re: NEW WR Coach???
That's what my father was telling me after he read their information on the UH website. That area of Texas has a huge poly contingent like Utah and Oregon.Palolo_2LA wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 2:47 pm Adding Laiu is a good touch since the Tongon contingent in Euyless, TX is a significant talent pool.

Moeakiola was a standout linebacker and safety at Arizona State. He has served as a graduate assistant at TCU and Georgia.
“We are so excited to welcome Coach Moeakiola to our Hawaii football family,” Todd Graham said in a new release. “He has great knowledge of our program values having been a four-year starter for us (at ASU) and on staff in our program. He has experience working in two premier defensive programs in the country in TCU and Georgia.”

Great article on Moeakiola before his last game at ASU.

The last home game of Moeakiola’s collegiate career will come on Thursday against No. 15 Utah. At this point, Moeakiola admits he might get somewhat emotional when he runs out of the Tillman Tunnel for the last time as a player.
For head coach Todd Graham, Moeakiola will leave a lasting impression on him far after he’s left the program.
Still, don’t be surprised if Laiu is spotted on the sidelines sporting a collared shirt rather than pads in the future.
“Laiu’s a guy that’s a very, very special young man,” Graham said. “A man of few words, a man of great faith. What an example he is on how he lives his life, how he goes about everything academically, on the field, off the field, tremendous student of the game. He’s going to be a coach. He’s a guy that whenever he’s done with playing football I’d hire in a heartbeat. He is a defensive Taylor Kelly, is how I’d describe Laiu.
“There’s not many people I’ve coached that I have more respect for.”
Re: New Defensive Coach - Laiu Moeakiola
This staff is definitely heavy on high risk, high reward types. Thin on FBS position coaching experience across the board.
Players, coaches will be growing together next fall.

One student athlete of Tongan descent from Texas that I recall is this "Japanese" young man: https://hawaiiathletics.com/sports/foot ... nabe/11556

Interesting hire. Hope he has lots of contacts in Texas. Not sure he'll make a splash in recruiting the South Pacific.
