With such a time crunch (just 2 weeks from Graham's hiring to Wednesday's NLI Late Signing Date), it seems as though there just wasn't enough time for the partial coaching staff hired thus far to re-group and recruit players based on the specific position need areas (primarily DL and to add QB, RB & OT depth)....but instead to recruit the best available players (apparently WRs and safeties) with some kind of recruiting connection with the new staff.kapakahi wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 8:42 pmAfter the Early Signing Date (before Rolo left), the top recruiting priority areas were DTs & CBs....along with a QB, RB, and a OT. Unfortunately, doesn't look like recruiting need for DTs (as well as QB, RB, and OT) have been addressed. With Graham and the new Special Teams coach both being out of college football for 2 years along with the new OC & OL coach coming in from the NFL, there just wasn't enough time for them to establish mainland recruiting ties to find the under-recruited/overlooked "diamond in the rough" players (such as Bethley, Byrd, Hune, Laulu, Manning, Matthews, Pryor, Smart, Thomas, Wa'a, Ward) that Rolo's staff found the past 2 Signing Classes who contributed greatly to the team's success this past season. Other than Abe & Yoro & Santa Cruz, the rest of the staff just started evaluating potential prospects within the past week or so.

I guess we'll have to save a few scholarships and check out the transfer portal, see who falls through the cracks and check out the late qualifiers.kapakahi wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 9:21 amWith such a time crunch (just 2 weeks from Graham's hiring to Wednesday's NLI Late Signing Date), it seems as though there just wasn't enough time for the partial coaching staff hired thus far to re-group and recruit players based on the specific position need areas (primarily DL and to add QB, RB & OT depth)....but instead to recruit the best available players (apparently WRs and safeties) with some kind of recruiting connection with the new staff.kapakahi wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 8:42 pmAfter the Early Signing Date (before Rolo left), the top recruiting priority areas were DTs & CBs....along with a QB, RB, and a OT. Re: QB
Well, we do have the December signees on board - and good ones too. We would have been in a big time world of hurt if it were like the old days before the December signing period. Can you imagine trying to put together a coaching staff and securing a first recruiting class two weeks before NLI day? History has shown that some have fallen through the cracks due to the over-offering of scholarships by some P5 and G5 schools, so there may be some young men who will be open to coming here and signing later in the signing period.Irse wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 9:37 amI guess we'll have to save a few scholarships and check out the transfer portal, see who falls through the cracks and check out the late qualifiers.kapakahi wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 9:21 amWith such a time crunch (just 2 weeks from Graham's hiring to Wednesday's NLI Late Signing Date), it seems as though there just wasn't enough time for the partial coaching staff hired thus far to re-group and recruit players based on the specific position need areas (primarily DL and to add QB, RB & OT depth)....but instead to recruit the best available players (apparently WRs and safeties) with some kind of recruiting connection with the new staff.kapakahi wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 8:42 pm

What is terrible about D'Anthony Jones's decision..... the saltiness of some Hawaii football fans in his tweet responds. Very shameful.

Re: Recruits?
in addition to making late offers to local HS '20 prospects Sergio Muasau (Mililani HS) & Lanakila Pei ('Iolani School), Yoro probably was playing tour guide taking Graham around the island to some of the local high schools to introduce him to the local HS head coaches (several of whom are UH FB alums).
The question really should be.....Where are the mainland recruits for the assistant coaches besides Abe & Yoro? Hmmm....
The last 4 mainland JC commits (Mays, Lockridge, Taylor, Bowens) are all Abe's recruits.

Hoping that Chad Kauha'aha'a wants to come back to the islands....'cuz he checks all the boxes (local ties; recruiting ties to Hawaii, Utah, Oregon, Cali & Amerika Samoa; extensive Power-5 coaching experience; etc.) so should be a no-brainer hire as DL Coach by Graham.... https://twitter.com/FerdLewis/status/1224393921309986817kapakahi wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:02 pm If not Joe Seumalo, hopefully former Baldin HS player Chad Kauha'aha'a (now that the new USC DC has apparently decided not to retain him)….since he's got lots of DL coaching experience (Utah State, Wisconsin, Utah, Oregon State, Boise State, USC)…..and recruiting ties here and in Utah, Oregon, Cali and Amerika Samoa.....

Re: Recruits?
He would be an absolute steal. Has major upside potential with length & frame to get bigger.
Was named to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 First Team....
