My 2 cents...First of all congrats to Coach Rolo...I would like to see who all is interested in the HC position. I am open to hiring someone from the outside it it makes sense, even if it's for a short few years. IMHO UH will never be able to compete financially with P5 schools, let alone many mid major schools. With that said, it appears that UH will always be a stepping stone for bigger and better opportunities. But to me that is OK, because that means UH, as a football program, is doing well if other schools want to poach the HC.
I don't really think the Admins at UH know much about football. So we can't assume they will think like fans.
We may think everything is great, and Rolo left the program in a good position (true).
But the decision will be looked at from a different view. Attendance is still down. And can we say still sliding down. This "style" of football is not working.
The numbers are not supporting anything the fans say. Where is the money? To "do the same thing" is not going to get different results. When they make the decision, they have to justify it.
Since it looks like they are leaving UH, my bet is on Ivan Jasper.
Rebuild.
True, Ivan Jasper was probably next for the Navy job, when there was interest for Kenny Niumatalolo to take the ND job.
They are both about the same age, which means, Ivan Jasper got a long wait - to be HC at Navy.
Maybe Ivan Jasper is a forever assistant coach type of guy. I don't know.
Hawaii may be Ivan Jasper's best chance at a HC job. He is at his coaching prime (age 50). Old enough with experience. And still young enough to still be coaching 10-15-20 years.
We all still know who Jasper is. And recall the magic of the Bob Wagner era.

Banker has a lot of experience, but I'd wonder what his outlook as a HC is like. Wouldn't like a longtime assistant in the mold of Norm Chow or Bob Nash who never really prepared himself for the role that a head coach has to play.
