I won’t call it a mistake, but it certainly was a poor “strategy”.

Clearly a mistake. It is more then likely what prompted Fred to enter the portal. Prior to that he accepted his role sharing duties with Reed. He actually averaged more yards per carry then Reed. I am very concerned as to who will back up Reed. It is rare to see a one back team that can carry the load for an entire season. I'd take Fred over what I've seen from Keliiliki. No speed to the edge. Limits our offensive options like Furuta. Advantage D when Furuta or Keliiliki is in the game. No speed, no pass out of the backfield, collapses the field horizontally, makes the passing windows smaller, less separation, more drops, more interceptions.

We needed Holly for 2020. Maybe someone will jump out from the pack. Maybe with playing experience Keliiliki or someone else will emerge. I don't see anyone else on the roster.

It was a coaching mistake.

Boggles the mind if the coaching staff is not actively pursuing running back recruits. Letter of intent day is fast approaching for the early period.

Freddie looked to have added muscle this year and O was looking forward to seeing him next year. He and his family were very proud of the school and state of Hawaii

How do you know that they are not pursuing RBs?

Yeah, what makes you think we're not recruiting RBs? Dae Dae Hunter, All-State RB of #12 ranked in the country and Arizona state champion Chandler HS was here this week.

Correct. Just because we don't get commitments or we don't sign players at a certain position, doesn't mean that we didn't recruit that position. Just means that players that the staff thought could help the program didn't want to come here.

do you think an RB out of HS can step right in and play in the R&S? Will he be able to block blitzing LBs? Will he be able to take the pounding of D1 football?

I am sure we are recruiting RBs, now.

But with Fred leaving we do have a depth problem at RB.

I think Rolo said he wanted 1 transfer and 1 FR. I can't remember if that was on his TV or radio show.

Maybe I should have emphasized the "IF" part of my statement.

UH still has to find blocking running backs. Not backs that are going to give a chip block but a full on stop the blitz type block. I hope that Freddie Holly finds a great running school. It seems like the best blocking backs were Furuta and Reed. Now they have to replace Furuta to take on the linebacker coming full speed on the delayed blitz. The holes are open because of the pass, not the other way around.
