apparently after san diego state missed the final field goal attempt, with two seconds remaining in the championship game, some sideline players rushed the field celebrating and risking a delay of game or unsportsmanlike penalty. rolo tried to move the players off the field and encountered jamm aquino on the field taking photos. rolo tried to move aquino off the field. a second u.h. employee moved aquino off the field. that's when aquino fell. aquino claims that he suffered a concussion, split lip, injured arm and a broken camera lens in the second encounter.

when the game was officially declared over, aquino waited to photo rolo and rocky together only to have rolo swear at him.

aquino and the star advertiser is claiming that even though the media guide prohibits media from entering the field of play, aquino has gone onto the field after games were over to photo the team and coaches.

the key to their claim is that aquino was allowed on the field after the game is over. in this incident aquino entered the field while the game was still in progress with a championship on the line.

photogs occasionally get run over in football games while on the sidelines. there's just no excuse for running onto the field during a game to snap a picture.

oh, and rolo apologized to aquino later that night.

No excuse for the assault but at the same time the photographer did violate the sideline rule. I hope this doesn’t bite Rolos Butt later on.

The editor of the paper, Frank Bridgewater, said that his photographer represents the readers and deserves to be treated as professionals.

"Swearing at and , worse physically assaulting them will not be tolerated. We will take whatever actions needed to protect our photographer's rights and to ensure that those who abuse them are called out."

Reading the entire article and to summarize. It seems Rolo was moving the photographer away from the field of play, and an unidentified UH employee shoved the photographer to the ground. This occurred during when players ran the field thinking the game was over with 2 seconds remaining. Later when the game was officially over the photographer was with the SD HC and requested that the two join together for a photograph. At which time the photographer contends that he encountered additional swearing from Rolo.

Not good for Rolo.

But the incident does raise the question if the photographer contends that he incurred a bloody nose, split lip, concussion, a sore shoulder and a broken camera lens when he was shoved to the ground wouldn't he address these concerns immediately? Summon for aide, police, help from security after
he was shoved down? As serious as these injuries are he continued back onto the field for more pictures. The article does not say if a police report was made after the game. As ominous as Bridgewater statement is, basically saying that he hopes that the perpetrators are called out-meaning, I would guess, prosecuted (?).

This does put a damper on the season, especially if this story hits national media.

UH and Rolo have to be in damage control mode. There's no nice way to put it. A third party should get the two sides together and work a deal out covering all damages from the complainant.

Photographer should have stayed off the field until the end of the game. They should charge him with trespassing.

a game cannot end on a penalty. What would have happened if a penalty was called because that photographer was on the field of play with 2 secs left? Ban him from the field. This was a championship game that could have been affected by a photographer. Rolo was trying to clear the field.

He should read the fine print on his pass before stepping out and doing stupid things.. It's a violent world out there!..

Hard fought game with championship on the line.
My guess: Rolo and coaches were urgently getting players and photographers off the field. Photo guy didn’t listen trying to get his photos. Rolo is pissed.

Then after the game, the same photographer asks Rolo and SDSU coach for pic. Rolo tells him where to go.

If photo guy acts professionally and respectfully, maybe he’d be treated the same in return.

In an ideal world,UH and Star-Advertiser will work something out over this incident,maybe in some kind of arbitration if the SA wants to press it. These two institutions have to come to some arrangement going forward because I'm pretty sure UH is going to continue playing football games,and the SA is going to continue sending a photographer to every football game. Gotta live together!

I think that UH AD should issue an injunction against any HSA photographer from getting onto Aloha Stadium field in the final game against Army so that it will not prevent Coaches and Student Athletes from doing their job. Furthermore I think that UH should file a suit against Aquino, Bridgewater and HSA for printing an article that is detrimental to the UH Athletic program and its paid staff.

Why did they have to report this as "news"? How about we get sports photographers that know how to read a game clock?

Hey maybe this whole thing is a ploy to garner more attention for the Army game and build up the attendance with fans who want to see UFC-type fighting on the field? Coaches versus the media! Make them up like Roman gladiators versus the slaves. Bring in the UH students who wouldn't normally go to the games because they have little, or no interest in football and treat them to a pizza party and the fights. Then after the media guys get creamed, put some students on the field against the ushers and HPD. Good fun.

Pretty soon they're going to have security just like they have high profile coaches like Nick Saban at the end of the game protecting him from the Aholeholes minus one hole.

So he ran onto the battlefield and got hurt. He took the risk. I don’t blame coach Rolo for being upset. No more photographers or reporters on the field. Problem solved for both sides.
