****OFFICIAL SDSU vs HAWAII WEST DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME THREAD****

Post by uhwarriors »

It's the biggest game in a decade. The winner goes to the MWC Championship game.

SDSU is ranked 25th in nation.

SDSU is 8-2 (5-2 MWC), while Hawaii is 7-4 (4-3 MWC).

SDSU has an outstanding defense leading the MWC allowing only 270 ypg and 13.7 ppg.

O/U is 52. If I were a bettor, I think I would take the under. Can we score enough to win?

Vegas opened at Hawaii -1. It's now Hawaii -3.

I hate it that we’re favorite. They are ranked and have a better record than us. Why?

would not have thought a top 25 team is coming to halawa as the underdog to hawaii.

rushers and o-line have to move the ball. aztecs allowed 65.8 yards per game. hawaii will need to run more than their average 151.2 rushing yards per game to open up the passing lanes. maybe over 200 yards rushing? san diego went nuts last week with turnovers on interceptions against fresno. cole needs to be in control of the program and passing well. noticed here and there cole's passes duck-wobbled to the receiver, is that what rolo is seeing when he says cole was getting funky on his passes and needed to rest? hawaii needs to control the ball, no turnovers, and keep the aztec's offense on the sidelines watching the clock run down.

to keep them on the sidelines, hawaii's defense needs to mob the ball, tackle the runner and rip, punch and tear the ball away. the defense showed up big time last week. one more game to play two. all on the defense. stats says the defense can hold san diego down, fourth quarter will tell.

by now, the team should be all in in believing their coaches on alignment, reads, assignments and performance. the coaches got them into a championship game. the players' response on the field got them to this point, consistency will get them two more games.

fans? anything over 25K would help. it's a championship game. where else in honolulu is there a more compelling entertainment?

The Warriors need to stretch the field vertically and horizontally. Rocky's team will be ready for the slot fly. Maybe a fake? Maybe the statue of Liberty with Victor taking the hand off and lateraling the ball back to Cole. Rocky will have someone spying Cole. Rocky will show 8 deep but blitz from all angles. Rocky's DBs will give you the short passes but close the separation and punish the receivers when they catch the ball, minimize YAC, create drops and make sure our receivers hear foot steps. They will play for turnovers.

My keys. Take care of the ball. Minimize penalties. Play the same 4-3-4 on DL and stop the run. Contain Agnew. He can beat you with his legs. He is an average passer.

- It will come down to how well our OL picks up the blitzes and stunts and how well they block the 3 man rush when it's there and Trezino.
- It will come down to the Ward and SDSU DB match up. Can the DB press Ward effectively? Can Ward beat the DB long? Last year their DB couldn't
cover Ward in man coverage. Rocky did adjust in the second half and played us well.
- It will come down to our game plan to beat 8 deep.

Cole and Rolo need to take what the D gives them and Cole needs to be decisive and take off if they are in 8 deep and no one is open. He can't sit and wait for some one to get open. They have atheletes in the DB and LB position and they can run and cover.

Go Warriors! Two games remaining in the regular season. You would hope that everyone and everything start to click on all cylinders by now.

I worry about the UH defense. Which version will show up on game day.

Even on the "worst" games, UH Offense wasn't all that bad.

The team with all offense, no defense (Hawaii) vs. the team with all defense, no offense (San Diego State). Weird, unique matchup. Hawaii known for its unique offense (run-and-shoot), SDSU known for its unique defense (3-3-5).

I've watched the Aztecs play a few times. Their offense is so unbelievably awful. Their typically dominant offensive line leaves a lot to be desired. Aztec defense is legit, but can they keep Hawaii under 20 at Aloha Stadium? Cause they'll need to in order to win this game.

It kinda makes me nervous how confident I am about this game.

This is a test to see if Rolovich can win the big game(s). Doesn't matter about Phase(s). Pull out all the stops. Win baby win.

I think Warriors prevail, if Rolo and offensive coordinator learn from the past ... make adjustments when playing solid defenses like San Diego State.

The line probably went from UH -1 to UH -3 yesterday because SDSU QB Ryan Agnew was held out of practice on Monday.
San Diego State quarterback Ryan Agnew was held out of Monday’s practice out of a preponderance of caution for a left calf bruise suffered in SDSU’s win over Fresno State.

Agnew was joined on the sidelines by three teammates — safety Trenton Thompson, defensive tackle Zach Thomas and tight end Sefo Mailangi — who were under concussion protocol.

“They’re being very careful because that stuff can turn into compartment syndrome,” SDSU head coach Rocky Long said. “They did an MRI and all that, but it’s just a bruised calf. He gets a little bit better each day. They think he will be fine to play.”

With Rolo supposedly closing practice this week, I hope the guys don't come out tight.

What was Dave Aranda's plan when LSU played Alabama? Hit the QB early and hard. It worked cause by the second half Tua was slow in moving in the pocket.

Can't hit the QB if we can't get to him. We aren't good at catching them either.

Ain't that the truth.
