i've also heard coaches lamenting the difficulty they have in convincing their players that their job is to earn a degree and play their best at their sport in practice and in games. the opportunity to score endorsement money might be the catalyst that makes players more responsible to avoid errors and to do their best in class and on the field. one of the reasons i tried to do my job better was the lure of more money as a reward for better job performance, yeah, i made mistakes on the job, but overall the money inspired me to constantly try to do better.

hoping this new wrinkle in players being eligible for endorsement money helps players reach a new level of personal responsibility and accountability in their lives. endorsements come with the same conduct requirements a good job requires, it might be a good thing for players: live a better role model life, focus on getting the job done, and hang on to the damn ball.
