New Jumbotron at Aloha Stadium!!!

Post by couz808 »

Per Star-Advertiser today
Aloha Stadium expects to debut a new, larger, more vibrant JumboTron in time for the Aug. 17 Los Angeles Rams-Dallas Cowboys exhibition game.
Stadium manager Scott Chan said, “This will be a significant upgrade from what we have had.”

The Daktronics LED board in the north end zone will measure 74 feet by 20 feet, up from the current 60×19. Two advertising panels are to be removed to accommodate the wider screen.
Work is expected to start this week.
The cost of about $800,000 is being picked up by IMG College LLC, the stadium’s new advertising rights holder, as part of its winning bid on the five-year contract last month, Chan said. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based company has options to renew up to three times in two-year increments.

The current JumboTron, which has been in place for nine years, has reached the end of its useful life, Chan said. “Many of the cells on it aren’t working and it is obsolete, so it has been difficult to find replacement parts.”
It was installed in 2010 by the advertising rights holder at the time, CBS College Sports Properties, and replaced a scoreboard that was installed in 1991 and overhauled in 2008.
The $350 million successor to Aloha Stadium, funding for which Gov. David Ige signed into law Monday, isn’t expected to open until at least 2024, some officials have estimated.

Meanwhile, the Rams announced Tuesday that their game with the Cowboys will be shown nationally on the NFL Network. The game was announced as a sellout within 24 hours after tickets went on sale in March.
The University of Hawaii opens its 2019 season Aug. 24 with Arizona at Aloha Stadium.

To take the glass half empty view, this is not free. Cost is being picked up by the advertising company. Sounds good. But is that support would have gone into general operations or maintenance instead? So now, that pocket is going to be short $800K?

Nice jumbotron, but the bathrooms look like sh*t.

I wonder how structurally safe Aloha Stadium actually is?

Aloha Stadium already does general operations and maintenance, and new bathrooms will happen when the new stadium is built. Hopefully no more troughs for the men, and many more stalls for the women.
