All-State linebacker/safety Dylan Toilolo was all set to enroll at the University of Utah when he decided to make a Ute-turn.

He now will join the University of Hawaii football team.

I don't see him on any list of Utah's 2018 recruit class so I don't think he signed an LOI with Utah, so he probably does not need to sit?

I'm wondering, if a local boy changed his mind and want to come back, why is there a spot for him automatically? Or what seems like automatically.

I believe he was a preferred walk-on for Utah, so his LOI is not biding. I wondering if he will be a preferred walk-on at UH or is he getting someone scholarship that opened up.

I mean it's not like he left Utah. And Rolo saw him at Ala Moana center, and said, you want to try out for UH Football? There must be "talk" for him to leave Utah and to UH.

If you had access to the Star-Advertiser, here is a small blurb that explains.

"But Toilolo said his mother, who had planned to also move to Salt Lake City, received a promotion at her job in Hawaii."

As far as I've read elsewhere and surmised, he was going to be a walk-on at Utah. Since he did not enroll there he is eligible to go anywhere he wants, with immediate eligibility at UH. He was going to live with his mom, who was going to move up there with him. Now they can stay home.

Rolo needs to make him earn the scholarship and save the scholarships we have now for those who really want to play here. We are losing too many scholarship players. We can’t build a good program if we keep handing out scholarships to transients.

It all starts with the defensive line. Toilolo is not a game changer. But obviously can make some tackles if he has a good D line in front of him. He has to earn his place on the team. If he gets stronger/faster, he could be a beast. Time will tell.
