Hey Sportsbow,

Why isn't #96 DE from Kahuku not on your list for 2010 recruits? Hope the Tony and the other UH coaches are looking at this guy. He has a motor and was all over the backfield last night against Leilehua.

“I was surprised and really excited. I wasn’t expecting anything like this so soon,” Kona Schwenke told Total Blue Sports Wednesday night. “Our athletic director [Joe Whitford] pulled me out of class this morning around 10:00 and he said, ‘Congratulations Kona, BYU has offered you a scholarship’ and gave me the letter to read.”

A starter for the first time this season at No. 6 ranked Kahuku High School – Hawaii’s most prolific Division I football recruiting assembly line – Schwenke’s 6-foot 5-inch, 210-pound frame, 4.7 forty speed, quick-twitch first step and overall athleticism have drawn early recruiting interest from USC, Oregon, UCLA, Stanford, Hawaii, Utah, UNLV, Oregon State, Arizona State, Michigan State, Northwestern and Colorado. He reports a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

Commenting on his first official offer, Schwenke pointed out that “BYU is where my parents have always wanted me to go to school. I know I can play there and still have the standards and religious ideals I believe in. To me, it’s a privilege and a blessing to get my first offer from BYU. BYU is my No. 1 school right now. It is a great school with a great football program.”

He added, “I can see myself going there. I think Coach Mendenhall is a great coach. BYU is at the top of my list right now. I know there are other schools interested and it’s still early. I don’t know when I’ll commit; maybe before my senior year. We’ll see. I have to talk to my parents and see what all the options are.”

Meanwhile, Kahuku’s head coach, Reggie Torres, confirmed Schwenke’s status as a major prospect: “By next year, Kona will be one of the most sought after players from Hawaii. He’s got a lot of room to grow [as a player]. I know that [national prep recruiting guru] Max Emfinger saw his potential as an incoming sophomore.

Pardon me for a really dumb question but shouldn't the title of this thread be....

"2010, 2011, and 2012 UH FOOTBALL RECRUITING" rather than "2010, 2011, and 2013 UH FOOTBALL RECRUITING"?

As it looks now y'akll skipped 2012.

kapakahi wrote:I hope the Warriors also take an early look at a couple of juniors (Class of 2010) nearby the Manoa campus....just a little ways down University Avenue on Date Street...at Kaimuki DL Desmond Tautofi (6'4, 270), younger brother of former UCLA DT David Tautofi & former UH Warrior DLs Darrell Tautofi & Daniel Tautofi....definitely comes from an athletic family....and at Iolani DT Sealii Epenesa (6'2, 300).

Unfortunately for them...but hopefully fortunately for UH....neither got much (if any) exposure to the mainland D1 college coaches since I don't think that either attended any summer football camps on the mainland...nor even the local (PIAA or HAIA) combines.

Since So Cal looks to be among the priority mainland recruiting areas for Coach Mack, hopefully Tony Tuioti (also a So Cal high school product from Tustin High) is already taking a look at the Class of 2010 So Cal prospects.
http://www.wearesc.com/news/story.php?article=1451
From this list, there are a few guys here that the Warriors might consider initiating recruiting contact with...since their respective schools already have some history & connection with UH. AD Jim Donovan is a Servite alum; Tua Mahaley and incoming recruit Jack Sula are Carson alums; Crenshaw alum and former Warrior CB Abe Elimimian is current Crenshaw assistant coach, while Solomon and Steve Stepter are also Crenshaw alums.
DL
Kirifi Taula, Servite. Taula is a big-time talent.
MacKenzie Falo, Carson

LB
Hayes Pullard, Crenshaw

Here's a sleeper for the Class of 2010. Clinton Wise from Moanalua, only a junior and getting bigger, faster, and stronger by the day. Check out his 2008 highlight video by clicking on the link below. He's playing style is known or is likend to when a silverback gorilla mauls something or someone. Well you be the judge after you watch the video for yourself. I think he's one of the most underated for the Class of 2010. He reminds me of Lofa Tatupu, who was also undersized and underated, but look what happened in the years that followed.. Who knows? or a example closer to home, clinton Wise also reminds of a Ikaika Curnan, and Ikaika was undersized and underated, but ended up being a key componant for Hawaii Football....so again who knows what's in store for this kid. Enjoy.

Add John Timo (6-3, 195, 4.56) from Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan as another So Cal prospect for the Class of 2010...

SoCal 2010 athlete prospect as two offers

By Rick Kimbrel, Recruiting Analyst

Athlete prospect John Timo (6-3, 195, 4.56) from Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan is definitely one to watch out of the class of 2010. He earned his league’s Player of the Year as a junior. To give you an idea what an accomplishment that is, he plays in the same league with likes of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, Lakewood and Compton. There’s a boatload of D-I talent in that league.

“John is a special player,” Jordan coach Thomas Barnes said. “He does everything for us. Not only does he play quarterback, but he does our placekicking, punting and plays free safety.”

There is no truth to the rumor that Timo works the snack bar during halftime, but he does just about everything else.

From his quarterback position, Timo threw for 1,395 yards and 15 touchdowns. The talented Timo also makes plays with his feet as he rushed for 642 yards and scored five touchdowns on the ground.

On the defensive side of the ball, Timo racked up 27 tackles, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

“John is a solid leader who leads more by his play than vocally,” Barnes said. “He doesn’t say much until crunch time, except to make sure everyone is lined up correctly, but when the pressure is on he will become vocal.”

“In one game this season we were down by two touchdowns and then he just took over the game,” Barnes said. “We ended up winning the game 31-27.”

“John is very competitive, he hates to lose,” Barnes said. “Even in wind sprints, he goes after it.”

In the weight room, his current bench is 250 and his squat is 385.

Timo attended the NIKE Camp held in Los Angeles and he is planning on participating at the NIKE Camp once again. According to Barnes, he will also attend one of UCLA’s team camps this summer.

On the recruiting front, Timo already has two offers on his plate from Oregon and Hawai’i. He is getting early recruiting action Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Washington, Idaho and Utah.

Nice find kapakahi. Thanks. BTW! I think his name is actually John Timu. Not John Timo like that article stated. It must be a mistake because a lot of other Long Beach Jordan articles spelled his name as Timu.
