It's always great to read that a local boy is coming home. And all the family ties with UH/Hawaii. This is not important now, but would like to know. Did UH offer him anything back then?

What I'm getting at is maybe more local boys should put more consideration to play for UH and stay home. That is not to discourage them from leaving for mainland schools.

Kind of like when I was at UH. UH was my first (and only) choice. Many of my classmates went to mainland colleges, because it was "fashionable." Some came back after a year or two, back to UH. Nothing wrong with that mainland experience. Sometimes, the better choice is in front of them, at home.

The success of Teo, Mariota, Milton, and Tua sort of made going to mainland school automatically, a better choice over UH.

He's 5'11, 212. Played in one game against SDSU in 2017. Doesn't appear to have recorded any stats in 2018. He was a walk-on at ASU. I think he has three years to play two. He's coming into a winning program with lots of games against the Pac-12. Welcome Parker, show 'em that you can play!

I don't think UH offered him out of high school.

He already redshirted so he has two more years left. I don't know if he has to sit out a year.

Looked through the participation list for each of ASU's games and he did not play at all last year.

Reminds me a lot of my bro Kawehi Sablan outta Castle. Good run blitzer, plays well in space, makes good reads to the RB, solid tackler.

We offer a lot at Hawaii but big-time schools offer so much more. There are things like facilities, benefits, and educational opportunities that far surpass anything Hawaii has to offer. Also, our school pretends to be academically elite. This discourages athletes more than anything else. Come on, we're a pretty good school but our admission standards are ridiculous. What is more, we take the moral high-ground when no one else would. McMakin and Tulimasealii are prime examples of political correctness gone wrong.

As far as I've seen this past year, the Pac 12 sucked and the SEC got schooled. It's a suckers game. When you farm out to the NFL, you have nothing left in the gas tank to win. Hawaii's greatest contributions to the NFL were never farmed. They were free agency picks. Others, like Chad Owens, were overlooked and became superstars in the Canadian Football League.

Another linebacker at Hawaii? Meh...

Many Hawaii players are not offered because they just won’t qualify.

He can make an impact on special teams, but I think he lacks lateral speed to play LB @ the D1 level.

If he can fill the inside gaps it will prevent those longs runs up the middle we have been cursed with.

I think this past season showed that the local boys who fell through the cracks can still have an impact in games. Of course it'd be nice to get the more overall every down type of player no matter where they're from, but these other guys can be impact spot players or specialist role players like a Kaimana Padello, Kanai Picanco, Jason-Matthew Sharsh, Dayton Furuta, Zeno Choi (tho by default he was made into an every down guy). They may not be able to hang with the rest of em game-in and game-out throughout the entire season, but each one had their moments and took advantage of their opportunities when it arrived for them

I get what you mean on players that "fell through the cracks," but I think the players you listed were recruited "properly." Guys like Padello was too small. But he made it up hard work, determination, drive, hard work, etc, etc. The same with Sharsh. He was not that good out of Moanalua. Same thing, hard work, hard work, good teammate, hard work, loves the game. And got his chance to play.

There are guys with incredible talent, and sometimes slack. And then there are those who may be less, and make it up with hard work. It's always good to see that, and I think that has been a UH tradition, giving guys that chance.

I can't recall his name. (I think it was Ornalice or Cornales - spelling wrong). This was at the start of the Fred Von Appen era. There was an awesome RB from the local high school. Super talented, but just could not stay on the team. His running style was very much like Jeff Sydner. After he got kicked off the team, I saw him doing nothing around UH campus. Anyhow, that's when they start to say Von Appen could not related to local kids, and eventually loss the respect and attention of the team.

Some say we need to hire a good coach (from the mainland) and show him the money. But Hawaii is a different place. It's always important to hire a coach with that Hawaii connection.

Ornellas? I believe from what I read that he was recruited by, and played a partial season during Wagner's last season before quitting.

No problem. I had to look it up, and because I also thought that he was recruited by Von Appen too.

I saw Ornellas carry the ball a few times, I don't remember much about him. In college, I wasn't too impressed, but like I said, I only saw a few carries from him. The same with the other Hawaii star, Boyd Yap. The dude was kind of an idle for me when I was growing up. Kaiser and Kamehameha star.
No mattah how critical, I support da coach, Rolo. I love what he doing wit Da WARRIORS.
