Resident Evil 5 360 Co-Op Demo Next Week

By Mike Fahey,
9:20 AM on Wed Nov 26 2008

Japanese gaming mag Famitsu has revealed that Xbox 360 owners will be getting a special holiday treat next week, as a co-op demo for Capcom's Resident Evil 5 drops on Friday, December 5th.

Image

The demo will consist of two stages, most likely the ones we've seen played through at trade shows throughout the summer, playable in either single player or co-op modes. Also in the article is news that Resident Evil 5 (okay, Biohazard 5) is being pushed up a week exclusively in Japan, now slated for release on March 5th instead of the 12th.

Keep in mind that the announcement only covers Japan, and only regards the Xbox 360, so PlayStation owners and non-Japanese folk will just have to wait while we poke Capcom vigorously with a stick.

Resident Evil 5 demo infects Xbox 360 on Jan. 26,
PSN week of Feb. 5 [update]

by Ross Miller Jan 14th 2009 12:27PM

Image

The Resident Evil 5 demo is coming to the US -- this time officially -- and is "premiering exclusively" the week of January 26th on Xbox 360, so sayeth the Major. The demo features two levels that can be played either solo (with AI support) or with a buddy via split-screen or Xbox Live -- yeah, it's the same as the Japanese demo, unsurprisingly. No word on the release of a PlayStation 3 demo, but we've poked our Capcom contact and will let you know what we find out. In Japan, the PS3 demo is only available on a bonus disc.

Update: A Capcom press release clarifies that the Xbox Live demo will be released on Monday, January 26th and, for Gold subscribers, will be "available exclusively on Xbox 360 for one week" -- at which point the PSN version will be released (during the week of February 5th). In addition, the Resident Evil 5 TGS trailer will be available for download on Xbox Live beginning this Friday, January 16th. [Via PS3 Fanboy]

PSA: Resident Evil 5 demo now available on Xbox Live [update]

by Alexander Sliwinski
Jan 26th 2009 9:00AM

Image

From inside his fortified office, where he can hear the shambling of the unemployed just outside, Major Nelson sends word that the Resident Evil 5 demo is up on Xbox Live Marketplace. The 472MB demo is the same one released in Japan early last month, featuring two levels that can be played solo or co-op, either online or couch-style with split screen.

The demo should be available sometime next week for the PSN. Eurogamer confirmed a Feb. 2 (Monday) release across the pond, but we've yet to hear back from Capcom about an official date in North America. At the latest, it'll arrive in time for the standard Thursday PSN update.

Update: Capcom confirmed to us that the PS3 version is coming February 2 to North America.

360 Resident Evil 5 Demo Claws Its Way Onto The Marketplace

By Mike Fahey,
10:20 AM on Mon Jan 26 2009

Image

A reminder to Xbox 360 owners everywhere - the playable demo for Resident Evil 5, the latest episode in Capcom's popular survival horror series, is now available for download in all regions.

As mentioned previously, the demo contains two levels from the full game, suitable for play in both single-player and co-op multiplayer modes. Those of you who are sitting at work right now, reading gaming websites when you probably shouldn't be, can head over to Xbox.com and add the demo to your download queue from there. At a mere 478 megs, even the most clogs internet tubes should have no problem having this ready by the time you get home.

Argument: ‘Resident Evil 5; Needs To Be More Like ‘Dead Space’

When word broke that Capcom was incorporating a “Gears of War”-style control scheme into “Resident Evil 5,” gamers rejoiced, but this week’s “RE5″ demo proves implementing only part of that system isn’t enough; you need to go all the way, something “Dead Space” did and “RE5″ doesn’t.

I downloaded the Xbox 360 version and played a couple rounds of co-op mode with my friend. If you've played any of the previous RE games, you shouldn't have any problems playing RE5. I've never played an RE game so I'm having a tough time so far with the game. I'd recommend playing the game in co-op mode with a friend. While the game can be played in single-player mode, RE5 is really meant to be played in co-op mode.

The Resident Evil 5 Demo Has Proved Somewhat Popular With 1.8 Million People

By Luke Plunkett,
9:30 PM on Mon Feb 2 2009

Image

Those wondering how much anticipation there is for Capcom's Resident Evil 5 need look no further than the following statistic: the Resident Evil 5 demo on Xbox Live has been downloaded 1.8 million times.

Microsoft reckon that places it "among the top demo launches on the service", though don't elaborate on which/how many demos it lags behind. What they do elaborate on, though, are some useless-yet-interesting stats, like the fact 1.3 million people downloaded the demo in the first three days of its release, and that 53% of Japanese Xbox Live Gold subscribers have already got hold of the demo.

Remember, kids: knowing is half the battle!
Exclusive “Resident Evil 5” Demo Downloaded By 1.8 Million fans on Xbox LIVE

Over the weekend, download figures for the Resident Evil 5 Demo on Xbox LIVE surged past 1.8 Million, wrapping up the first week on Xbox LIVE.

With the January 26th release, more than 1.3 million Xbox LIVE members around the world downloaded the demo of the hotly anticipated “Resident Evil 5” in just the first three days, placing it among the top Demo launches on the service. The Demo was first available exclusively to Xbox LIVE Gold members for the first three days and then for all Xbox LIVE members worldwide on January 29th. The demo also reached new heights with its Japanese release in December under the “Biohazard 5” title, being downloaded by over 53% of Xbox LIVE Gold members in Japan.

The release allows fans to get their hands on new “Resident Evil 5” features including two new levels of single- and two player co-op play, characters, weapons and environments. In this latest installment of the renowned survivor-horror franchise, returning “Resident Evil” hero Chris Redfield is joined by new partner Sheva Alomar to take on the frightening effects of the latest bioterrorist attack in the depths of Africa.

Xbox LIVE provides players with the ability to have their pick of who they want to experience the terror with. Whether it’s a close friend or one of the more than 17 million members around the world, on Xbox LIVE it’s easier to know when friends are online, playing “Resident Evil 5”and available to catch up over voice- or video-chat.

The demo’s success, comes in the same week as “Resident Evil” fans were asked to help unlock the secrets of Kijuju first through Xbox-LIVE and Xbox.com. For the most up to date news on the title, fans have also been flocking to Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com to check out first looks at exclusive game trailers and videos. On March 13th, Resident Evil 5 will move to its new home on Xbox 360.

Zombies Invading Best Buy For Resident Evil 5 Launch

By Brian Crecente,
1:00 PM on Tue Feb 3 2009

Image

Best Buy may be taking a page from Hollywood premiere events for big video game events in the future. The change is being led by a store full of ambling zombies and a chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador.

On March 13, the Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Best Buy will convert part of their store into a haunted house. They will be dressing up employees as zombies, turning their bank of televisions to eerie no-signal snow and even putting a person in a potato-sack mask and giving them a chainsaw, all to celebrate the launch of Resident Evil 5... and maybe sell a few copies of the game.

"You want to get away from midnight releases, that's stale, that's old," said Dave Partenio, supervisor of gaming and media at the store. "We want to have a premiere game party for this game."

And Best Buy corporate offices are keeping a close eye on the event. If they go over well, and the store's sales reflect that, than we may be seeing more theme release nights for games in the future. The idea would turn a long night of waiting in the dark with other gamers into a sort of party.

"It's all about the experience," Partenio said.

The store has also been in talks with Capcom to try and round up some special giveaways and prizes and the local university to work out a deal to donate to a charity there.

The event will kick off at midnight on March 13, with employees leading small groups of gamers through the store's haunted house and eventually to pick up and buy their copy of the game.

Partenio said that the store has been open for about a year and includes a built in gaming center. The center has eight screens hooked up to four gaming systems — a PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 — so people can try out titles before they buy them.

The idea of bringing zombies into the store for the launch came from employee Drake Campbell, and then the store ran with it, he said.

Sounds like a neat idea and one that, if you like and live in the area, you should probably show up to, to support.

The demo's graphics was pretty nice. It's a FPS now, and not 3rd person action like the last one I played (re1+2). They've added "save your buddy" events like L4D, maybe they're going to shoehorn that in every zombie game from now on. Maybe I'd get it on steam if it's really cheap, but it's probably not for me.

Resident Evil 5 topping charts in the UK

by Justin McElroy
{ Mar 17th 2009 at 6:30PM }

Image

We learned yesterday that Resident Evil 5 had shipped 4 million worldwide, and it seems a hefty portion of those are being snapped up in the land where they spell "zombie" with a "zed" ... no, besides Canada. Chart Track reports the game's at the top of the sales pile in the UK, becoming the fastest selling in series history and Capcom's biggest launch ever.

The first in the series on a Microsoft console, RE5 nabbed 55 percent of its sales on the 360 and the remainder on PS3. CT also reports that RE5 is the biggest multi-platform launch since Call of Duty: World at War, reaffirming our belief that zombies always equal sales.

Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode For Sale Tomorrow

By Mike Fahey,
9:20 AM on Mon Apr 6 2009

Image

Now that you've played Resident Evil 5 with each other, it's time to play against each other, as Capcom puts Versus mode up for sale tomorrow on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The Versus mode contains two different game types. Slayer's Rule sees players trying to down the most Majinis within the time limit, while Survivor's Rule has players trying to down the most other players. Versus will be available for purchase tomorrow on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, costing either 400 Microsoft points or $4.99, depending on how your platform chooses to represent money.

So who's buying?

Joystiq Review: Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode (DLC)

by Andrew Yoon
{ Apr 10th 2009 at 1:40PM }

Image

Many gamers didn't respond well -- it's an outrage! -- to Capcom's plan to offer Resident Evil 5's Versus Mode as post-release DLC. It's easy to see why: The new, premium gameplay modes have been released less than a month after the retail game. Should Capcom have waited a bit longer to unveil these new modes? Perhaps. But after a few hours of gameplay, we can see other reasons to cry foul.

Versus Mode will be familiar to anyone that has played the bonus Mercenaries Mode included in RE5. The DLC is, essentially, a five dollar repackaging of Mercenaries, allowing players to forgo cooperation for deathmatch-style gameplay. It's a simple twist, and one that doesn't even provide the illusion of effort on Capcom's part. It's clear to us that Versus should (and could) have been part of the original retail package. Yet in spite of this shadiness, it's hard to deny that Versus is a fun mode, and, if you've already exhausted the disc's content, worth the five dollar asking price.

Presenting: Jim Henson's Resident Evil 5

By Owen Good,
5:00 PM on Sat Apr 11 2009

Severed Ernie head, bloodied Cookie Monster corpse and, best of all, Beaker as Wesker. This extraordinarily nonauthorized and noncanonical trailer looks more like a prequel to the RE5 story.

But it's strangely ... compelling. With Black 20, could it be anything else? I mean, other than proof that even Muppets can carry a haunting, long silence with dramatic, middle-distance staring.
