Capcom not only brings us the final September release date for Resident Evil 5 on the PC, but a benchmark program to see if we're better off buying a console instead.

There are two different benchmark tests. (Fixed and Variable) The Fixed test is from the early part of the game (one of the demo maps) in the village (?) where the dude is standing on a raised platform with a megaphone. The camera switches between megaphone man and the crowd on the ground.

The Variable benchmark is gameplay footage. I ran both benchmark tests three times and each time I got a slightly better score. Each time I ran the Variable benchmark test, the gameplay footage was slightly different. Also, the gameplay footage was slightly different from the console versions. It'll be interesting to see if the PC version is actually different.

One more thing, I really hope the PC version looks like the footage I saw in the benchmark tests. My first thoughts when the benchmark tests were running was ... WOW !!!

Resident Evil 5 Review

The outbreak of Umbrella's virus has finally hit the PC. Should you get infected?

Six months ago, Capcom returned to its survival horror roots by unleashing Resident Evil 5, the latest installment of its acclaimed franchise, on consoles. Reuniting some of the classic characters while at the same time taking advantage of features from the previous title in the series, RE5 was an evolution of the genre. The addition of co-op further added to the fast paced action, as you had a hand to fend off the infected denizens of Kijuju. However, up till now, only console players could enjoy fighting the hordes; fortunately, that's about to change. Resident Evil 5 has arrived on PCs, and while the release on computers isn't a director's cut, packing tons of additional content, the few new bells and whistles included definitely make it a solid improvement over the console versions, and arguably the best version of the game that's been released.

It looks like Capcom USA was tired of us making fun of the proposed name for the upcoming Resident Evil 5 expansion, "Alternative Edition." The division has chosen a bling-ier title for its stateside release: Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. Gold Edition will be released as a retail box copy on March 9 for $49.99 as a single Blu-ray disc, including the original game and add-on content, on PS3 and as a DVD with download voucher for Xbox 360.

Yesterday, we learned about the cast swap that would take place in Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition's second downloadable episode, Desperate Escape. However, we had no context in which to put Jill Valentine and Josh Stone in cahoots, nor did we know what they'd be doing while cahooted. Now, thanks to an announcement from Capcom, we know: They'll be escaping. Desperately.

Tricell CEO Excella Gionne is so elegant she doesn't bother changing out of her evening wear to battle Majini as a new playable character in Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition's Mercenaries Reunion.

Capcom revealed the beautiful but merciless Ms. Gionne as a playable character in Mercenaries Reunion today, with a set of screens showing off her strong fighting instinct, martial arts prowess, and impeccable taste in clothing.

Capcom's second heaping helping of Resident Evil 5 drops today, with the release of the Desperate Escape episode starring Josh and Jill, along with new costumes for stars Sheva and Chris.

The circle of downloadable content is now complete, and Resident Evil fans that opted to purchase the DLC instead of waiting for the March 9th release of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition can complete the package. Desperate Escape, available today on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 400 Microsoft points, sees players taking control of Josh Stone and Jill Valentine as they struggle to escape the Tricell facility towards the end of the main game.
