Re: Gears of War 2
This patch helped but I am still very disappointed in Gears 2. I must have spent over 200 hours playing the first gears and EPIC totally screwed up this game. Still might be fun for someone who hasn't played the first gears though.

Just wondering, what exactly do you not like about Gears 2? I played the first Gears (PC) single-player only and so far I've only gotten around to playing a couple rounds of Horde mode in Gears 2.TheWitness23 wrote:This patch helped but I am still very disappointed in Gears 2. Epic contemplates Gears of War 2 ranking system overhaul
by David Hinkle
{ Feb 9th 2009 at 12:30PM }
If you've been playing Gears of War 2 since its release in early November, then the ranking system is just one item of complaint on a list of many. Thankfully, Epic's Rod Fergusson has proposed a change in the way players are ranked, introducing an experience-based alternative on the Gears of War forums. The response was pretty much positive, as many of the comments are in favor of the proposed changes than the existing Trueskill-based system.
In case you were wondering where we stand, you can bet we're in support of Rod's idea. Mainly because we've had our rank since the first day and it hasn't changed in the slightest. You'd think 10,000 kills would be enough to rank up, but then you'd be wrong.

Epic details next Gears 2 update, Snowblind to cost 800 MS Points
by David Hinkle
{ Mar 23rd 2009 at 10:46AM }
If Epic is looking to win back lost Gears of War 2 players, then it's going about it the right way. The company has released the laundry list of changes coming in Title Update 3, and we have to say a majority of them look nice on paper, but we'll have to wait and see if they can be properly executed before we pass judgment. Find the full list after the break.
Epic isn't stopping there, as the development studio also dropped information on something else Gears fans have been waiting for: a price for the new Snowblind map pack. As expected, it will cost you a cool 800 ($10) when it releases on March 31, just as the Combustible maps did.

Gears Of War 2 Gets Snowblind
By Mike Fahey,
8:20 AM on Tue Mar 31 2009
More maps, more achievements, and more hiding behind things and shooting come in the Snowblind Map Pack for Gears of War 2, now available via Xbox Live Marketplace.
Fans have been drooling over them for several weeks, and now the four new multiplayer maps for Gears 2 are upon us in the Snowblind Map Pack. Grindyard, Under Hill, Courtyard, and the snowy remake of Fuel Depot are all available now for 800 Microsoft points, giving players even more places to get chainsawed in half than ever before.
Adding to the value of the pack is 250 points worth of new achievements, mainly centered around the new experience system introduced in last week's title update. Achievements are now earned for reaching level 5, 15, 25, 50, and 100, with some additional requirements added to the later levels to keep things fresh. What requirements? Check out the full list of achievements below to find out!

Gears Of War 2: Snowblind, As Narrated By Bender
By Luke Plunkett,
1:30 AM on Tue Apr 7 2009
There's a new Gears of War 2 map pack available. It's called Snowblind. And sure, you could let Microsoft, or Epic try and sell you on it, but how about Bender instead? Yes, sit back and allow John DiMaggio - who does the voice work for Futurama's surly robot (and also some Marcus Fenix guy) - to take you on a guided, emotional tour of the new maps featured in the pack.
Thankfully, he does it in his best "John DiMaggio" voice, rather than his best "Marcus Fenix" voice, so you don't need to worry about his gravelly tones rubbing your inner ear raw over the course of two minutes of non-stop narration.

New Gears 2 Content Striking Retail On All Fronts
By Mike Fahey,
7:30 AM on Wed May 6 2009
Microsoft and Epic Games deliver seven new multiplayer maps to Gears of Wars 2 in July's retail release of the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, finally answering the question "what is Dark Corners?"
Back in March, rumors flew about a new batch of downloadable content for Gears of Wars 2 called Dark Corners, but Epic denied that such DLC existed. Turns out that they were absolutely correct. Dark Corners is not just DLC. It's a new map pack being included in the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, available exclusively at retail worldwide on July 28th. The collection includes all of the Gears 2 DLC to date, along with Dark Fronts, a collection of seven new multiplayer maps which you can find detailed below and a new single player chapter titled "Road to Ruin".

Epic cuts price on 'Dark Corners,' pushes 'All Fronts' to Xbox Live Marketplace
by David Hinkle
{ May 31st 2009 at 9:30PM }
We finally know why 'All Fronts' started vanishing from online retailers. In speaking with IGN, Epic's Rod Fergusson said that the feedback from fans on the original 1600 ($20) price for 'Dark Corners' and the retail release of 'All Fronts' wasn't, well ... favorable. So, Epic decided to mix things up.
Dark Corners will now be offered at a much cheaper price of 1200 ($15). As for 'All Fronts,' it's ditching its planned retail release for an exclusive Xbox Live Marketplace stay, where fans will be able to download the content for 1600 ($20) at 12:00am GMT on July 28.
[Thanks, surinder!]

Celebrate Your Independence With Double Gears 2 XP
By Mike Fahey
9:40 AM on Wed Jul 1 2009
What better way to celebrate Independence Day weekend than sitting inside an air-conditioned house gathering twice the normal experience points in Gears of War 2?
With Title Update 4 dropping just in time for America to celebrate its independence from British tyranny, which seems a bit silly now that we look back, now is the perfect time to hold a double experience weekend in Gears of War 2. Executive producer Rod Fergusen agrees.

CELEBRATE THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS—GEARS-STYLE
This holiday, Epic Games has a special present for all you Gearheads out there… actually, 12 presents, along with a few other surprises as well! Beginning December 23, the Gears multiplayer experience will transform into the 12 Days of Gearsmas.
On the first day of Gearsmas, everyone gets a Noobsaw. This means that shots will not interrupt the Lancer’s Chainsaw. Once it gets revving, only a kill can stop it.
On the second day of Gearsmas, it’s time for some melee instagib. One attack will tear your enemy to shreds in the usual messy fashion, with no need to hit twice.
On the third day of Gearsmas, you’ll get three Frag Grenades for every pickup. Worried about saving that last grenade? Just throw it—you’ve got three of ‘em.
