Are you on the fence about the upcoming changes to the Xbox 360 dashboard? Apprehensive about the unceremonious subtraction of your beloved blades? Perhaps it would be wise to check out an interactive demo of the New Xbox Experience (or, as the hip kids are calling it, the NXE) that was recently added to Xbox.com. You can get a good idea of what the new layout will look like -- though you'll have to wait until the NXE lands on your 360 before trying your hand at breathing life into your cartoonish, digital representation.

Catalogue Of Xbox 360 HDD Game Install Performance Improvements

Posted By: Brian Leahy

Our friends over at BingeGamer.net have spent a lot of time testing and cataloguing the various performance changes gained from installing Xbox 360 to the hard drive in the New Xbox Experience.

In general, games seem to load 20% - 30% faster, but there are a few surprises.

Most notably, when Halo 3 is installed, BingeGamer finds that "load times are worse (10 seconds longer) when installed and at almost every level." Whoops! Maybe Bungie will be able to fix this in a patch.

Mass Effect's elevator loading screens also do not get any shorter as they are hard-coded into the game to match the DVD loading times.

Check out the full list here, and watch it for updates. The New Xbox Experience will re released as a system update on November 19th.

Amazon Throws in Games and Points with 360 Elite Purchase

By Brian Crecente, 8:00 AM
on Mon Nov 24 2008

Amazon is kicking off the final week’s countdown to Black Friday with a fairly good Xbox 360 deal. Kicking off early this morning, if you buy the Xbox 360 Elite Holiday bundle, you get a free copy of Square Enix’ The Last Remnant and 4,000 Microsoft points.

Image

That means for $400 you’re getting an Xbox 360 with a 120 GB hard drive, copies of LEGO Indiana Jones (yay), Kung Fu Panda (boo), and The Last Remnant (yay, I think) as well as about $50 in Microsoft points. That’s what we in the biz like to call a hell of a deal. You’ll have to enter the promotion code XBOXDEAL during checkout and supplies are limited for the day-long deal.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing similar deals for the PS3 and Wii, maybe even the portable as we move toward Turkey Day here in the states.

Inside an Xbox 360 Jasper: Ben Heck dissects the mythical console, then tells you how to find one

by Benjamin Heckendorn,

Ace modder Benjamin J Heckendorn (aka "Benheck") has found -- and immediately dissected -- an Xbox 360 Jasper unit. As widely reported, it was inside an Arcade unit. In the following exclusive story, he not only details what he finds inside, but will also clue you in on how you too can find this unit on store shelves. Read on for the exclusive Engadget look at the guts and the glory!

This was a FDOU team Xbox 360, manufactured on 10-22-08, lot # 0842X.

For starters the Jasper does indeed have a large amount of on-board memory. With NXE installed, the system shows an "MU" having 214MB free. It'll be interesting to see if the 60GB Pro Jaspers have this... I would bet yes, having NXE on-board would be handy, but as we all know it still runs even with your hard drive removed.

Your Xbox 360 Massages You Gently

By Mike Fahey,

The XNA Community Games program continues to be a wealth of innovation on the Xbox 360, as a new program available for download turns your 360 controller into a "portable massager".

Rumble Massage is a new XNA game now available for download in either demo form or the full version, which will set you back 200 Microsoft points but includes the "Epic Mode" vibration settings, for those times when your shoulders are especially tense. From the official description:
Shoulders and back getting stiff from 18 hours of straight Gaming? Try Rumble Massage! Put a controller behind your neck and feel the soothing vibrations of the Xbox 360 controller. With the ability to control the rumble intensity and pulse, relaxing after a hard day of gaming has never been easier.
Look, all I ask is that you don't actually tell us where you put the controller. You can giggle all you want in the comments section, but let's not get into specifics.

And NO PICTURES.

Seems The 360 Avatar Editor Is More Popular Than We First Thought

Some people probably used the 360's avatar creator when they first got hold of the New Xbox Experience, and that was that. One use only. But other people use it a bit more often.

360 Dashboard Update: The Future Of Achievements

Posted - August 6, 2009
by Russ Frushtick

Over the past week I've been delving into some of the elements of the August 11th 360 dashboard update, specifically with avatar props and Netflix additions. The final part of my interview with Ben Smith, the Director of Program Management for Xbox Live, looks more towards the future, and what we can expect to see from achievements.

The new update adds a pane to your profile page (pictured above) which keeps track of your total achievement score, your total potential achievement score (i.e. how many achievement points you could earn if you got 100% on all your played games), and the games in which you've gotten 100%.
