Re: this years team 18
Why is there clanking when the ball hits the rim at Stan Sheriff Center? I've only heard that noise in ratty outdoor courts.

Hawaii/Irvine was one of the best games I've seen Hawaii play. On defense they gave great weak side help against these left handed hook shots from their big men. End of the second half, they kind of got tired and didn't give Raimo the help he needed against Rutherford.

Right on. His feet was really moving fast as Purchase on defense against UCD. Nobody's feet is as fast as Drammeh though. Buggs can push that ball up the court pretty good as well as make those short jumpers over his defenders.

I never thought Stepteau would be a one man show for Hawaii. He was able to break the press as well. Way to go Brocke.

Re: this years team 18
Hawaii had a sixth man with the crowd against the Beach. I'm sure it caused for the missed free throws and they seemed to turn the tide with the bad calls in favor of the Beach to UH's favor. But rightly so, since the home team should always have questionable calls in favor of the home team. Hope for a large crowd against UCSB.

Only one player was playing at UCSB speed and that was Samuta Avea. Everybody else looked like they one step too slow on offense and too slow in getting in position on defense. Avea looked he was fighting for the ball and still hitting his threes. He reminds me of Draymond Green but shoots threes better than Draymond.

Re: this years team 18
IMHO, the way they need to play Amadou Sow is to put one of the three seven footers against him. Play a larger lineup because Hawaii is looking for the three especially Purchase and Stansberry. The rest of the team is taking the three that the other team is giving them. Drammeh needs to put the ball up when he gets within 5 feet of the basket and not look for a pass off that isn't there. There needs to be more drives to the basket other than Buggs and Stepteau like those coming from Stansberry and Drammeh with a kickout if the shot is not there. Purchase cannot give up the baseline that he's been giving up for the layins.

this cold outside shooting and not being able to play inside is not a good look.shrek2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 9:01 am IMHO, the way they need to play Amadou Sow is to put one of the three seven footers against him. Re: this years team 18
I don't know who it was from the other team but he was just taking the baseline that Purchase was giving him. That's basic. The big boys for Hawaii at least have the reach to get offensive and defensive rebounds against a team that plays taller than their height since they are fast on the feet and block out. I'd say that Drammeh and Buggs are at best 25% three point shooters with Stansberry and Purchase at about 30-35% threes. So, Stansberry has to show the drive so to throw the defense off and so does Purchase but only Buggs and Stepteau drives and passes off or takes the shot close in. They can't rely on the three to keep them in games. Its like the Golden State Warriors, they can't win if they only rely on Curry's threes. I'd say put in a big against UCSB since the rebounding and defense was so bad. Give the big men experience since Sow is only a freshman and going to be here for another three more years.kalua pig wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:06 pmthis cold outside shooting and not being able to play inside is not a good look.shrek2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 9:01 am IMHO, the way they need to play Amadou Sow is to put one of the three seven footers against him.
