Wahine Basketball 2019

#1 Post by shrek2 » Sat Jan 12, 2019 3:24 pm

It looks like Hawaii has a competitive Women's Basketball team for the 2019 season. I watched my first game against UCD and Lauren Rewers looks like a good go to inside player but her performance goes down the longer she plays. The whole team did a great job of blocking out for the rebounds so there were no second shots. It looks like the ladies who are thicker normally get the calls on the fouls. I understand now why Mackenna Woodfolk was called for fouls in the previous two games is likely because she played against taller and thicker ladies underneath. Even though they arrive at the same spot at the same time, benefit is given to the bigger lady. Congrats to the Wahine for beating the 1st/2nd place team in the preseason poll in UCD 65-60. They have a shot at the title.

The women look like they have larger motions to make three pointers so unless they complete the motion they will miss. So often in the lost against CSUN you could see the women not going through their full motion when taking the three pointers. During shoot arounds or taking shots alone, they have to imagine being defended so they don't tense up during game time. One thing that Hawaii had over CSUN was the ability to move the ball around in and out of the paint to get the open shot. They cannot stop taking three pointers though after missing most of them in the first two quarters. They gotta continue taking threes unless they are playing for the next game. Lauren Rewers looked better than the two time Big West MVP.
