2011 High School Cross Country
All the ducks have been lined up. It was only a matter of time.
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
now what is that supposed to mean?
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
You're right....it's almost time. Time to start the conversation about the upcoming 2011 XC season. Teams are in summer training, getting ready for competition. Looking ahead to Maui the last weekend of October. Keep running everyone and stay healthy and safe.
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
Anybody know the schedule? Is states going to be in Maui? Where in Maui?
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
States will be on Maui this year. Possibly in Kapalua.
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
Here's the schedule I have for the OIA, which should be similar to the ILH schedule except for the preseason meets:
9/3/11 Preseason Meet
9/10/11 Preseason Meet
9/17/11 Iolani Invitational
9/24/11 Kaiser Invitational
10/1/11 OPEN
10/8/11 OIA Divisional Championships; also Punahou Invitational
10/15/11 OIA JV Championships
10/22/11 OIA Championships
10/28/11 HHSAA Championship Meet Host: MIL
Also I guess this is all tentative. Looking at weekend of Punahou Invitational, that may be changed to the October 1st weekend. Especially seeing that all OIA schools wouldn't be in attendance because of Divisional Champs. Good luck to all. The start of the school year and new XC season is two weeks away.

MAJOR Directive from the DOE
As of today ALL public high school Cross Country teams are directed to conduct practice on school campuses only. If this directive is not followed coaches, ADs, principals, etc. may be punished for insubordination.
Does anyone know why this decision was made (i.e. someone got hurt, jumped, kidnapped, etc.)?
This decision is going to have a major impact on the public school teams, because of course this rule does not apply to the private schools. At this point the integrity of Cross Country in Hawaii is totally compromised due to the varying facilities, landscape, and area available to different public schools. There is not an equal opportunity for all students to practice on a level playing field their ability to compete will suffer.
Is this possible? Do you think schools will disregard this directive and continue running on the roads?

Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
That is to bad. The private schools already have such an advantage. If you only new what really goes on there.
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
Those affiliated with private schools, I ask that you join us affiliated with public schools and cry foul on this new rule. As a cross country community, whether your allegiance is towards a public or private school, we need to take a stand to not allow the DOE to create such a imbalance in training opportunities. When the debate has come up before regarding having a separate championship for private and public schools, one argument against such a split was that training was a great dictator of such success at the private schools. If this rule is allowed to be enforced, public school students will not have equal training opportunities compared to their private school counterparts.
In the interest of competitive balance, do not turn a blind eye to this situation, and show your support for public school cross country runners!

Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
Ok for years I have been saying to coaches it is all in the start, the first mile, in some years it was over after the first 1200 meters. So here is a heads, here is the first mile of the state meet course. http://www.flotrack.org/video/502344-20 ... mpionships. Look who is up front, count the places of were everyone is and then look at the results. It was one of the last times someone almost beat Punahou, they won by 8 points. For a team to beat Punahou it has to start now, not a month from now or two months from now. Lactate clearing workouts, high milage weeks. The first mile is fast. The first 200 is down hill. Getting out the first 400 in front. Seabury had it right but could not maintain the pace. Maybe someone out there will finally get it right. Good Luck!!.
Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
Ah memories. Thanks for the video Nogutsnoglory. So is it offical??? Is it returning to Kapalua again? Not only getting out fast was important on that course. Being on the far left was an advantage too. All the teams that lined up on the far left was able to make that first sharp right turn.

Re: 2011 High School Cross Country
I would count on it. But it is not rocket science here. There are two teams out there that have a chance to upset Punahou, you can guess which two I am talking about, one of them is from Maui, the other is from the Big Island. I just wanted to plant the seed. Lets get going!!. No time to waste.

OIACoach: Please share your thoughts about how you plan on approaching the DOE directive preventing off campus training.

It is easy. Start a USATF running club. Call the club a name like" The Big island Jack Rabbits". Have your runners sign up with USATF as club members. Then it is covered under USATF insurance. Each runner pays a small fee like $15 to be part of the club. The fee to start the club is $35. No attachment to DOE completely legal. The coach signs up as the club coach. Done. Then the club can practice any where they want.
