HONOLULU – The Lahainaluna High School girls basketball team drew the fourth seed in the Hawaiian Airlines Division I Girls Basketball Championships, which run Tuesday through Friday at Stan Sheriff Center on Oahu.
Punahou drew the top seed with Ko-nawaena of the Big Island getting the second seed. Kahuku is the third seed. Ko-nawaena is the defending champion, while Kahuku was second and Punahou third last year.
The Lunas, who won the Maui Interscholastic League with an 8-0 record, will get a first-round bye. Lahainaluna will make its debut in the tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Lunas will play the winner of Kaiser against Honokaa. Kaiser finished second in the Oahu Interscholastic Association, while Honokaa was second in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation. If Lahainaluna wins, the Lunas could play Punahou in the semifinals.
Baldwin, the MIL Tournament champion and last year’s fourth-place finisher, will play Kalaheo in a first-round game at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears take a 7-3 record into the game against the team that finished fifth in the OIA.
In Division II, MIL champion Seabury Hall takes on Saint Francis, the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The Spartans, who won the regular-season title and the MIL tournament, are 12-1. In the other Division II game, Kamehameha Hawaii faces Kalani at 4:15 p.m.
The championship games in both tournaments will be played on Friday.

TRUE
TRUE DAT!!!Gatorade wrote:It was probably one of the best Hawaii high school girls basketball championship games ever played. A double overtime, victory for Punahou, 52-50. Konawaena played a fantastic game but used just six or seven girls, eventually fatigue became a factor. Almost a “hoosiers†finish.
I was pulling for the Big Island Girls to come back... Down 3 points with like 20 seconds, the Konawaena girl launched a 3 that I thought would have sent the game into 3OT... Missed and had to foul. Punahou made the 2 FT and with 8 seconds remaining they drove and at the buzzer Konawaena hits a beyond NBA 3 pointers to lose by 2...
The scary thing is in Punahou's last 2 wins, they were led by twin sisters Shaena-Lyn and Shawna-Lei Kuehu, WHO ARE ONLY FRESHMAN
See the following for a previous write up on the twins..

True, on the Bobby Curran Show they brought this up and how it really hurts the Senior Girls who wants to go to college. Letter of Intent signing day is before the season even starts so if anything girls who don't have an outstanding JR. year can get screwed and looked over.WOW! Your state basketball tournament are sure late in the school year. Oklahoma and Wyoming had theirs about a month ago.
