Hawaii and the NBA

Post by wyokie »

I've been wondering something. How many former Hawaii basketball players have been selected in the first round of the NBA Draft over the years?

As for my Pokes, we've have had 4 go in the 1st round:

Charles Bradley, 23rd pick overall in 1981 by Boston
Bill Garnett, 4th pick overall in 1982 by Dallas
Eric Leckner, 17th overall pick in 1988 by Utah
Theo Ratliff, 18th overall pick in 1995 by Detroit

2nd round in 1988 to Detroit. He was the 30th pick overall. I think there were only 29 clubs in the league that year. I believe Orlando & Minnesota joined the league as expansion clubs that year.

Incidently, Fennis only lasted 1 lousy season in the NBA with the Pistons of course.

Also, he is the ONLY Wyoming player regardless of the sport to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The SI jinx affects even Wyoming players as well.

Tom Henderson was the 7th pick in the first round in 1974 by the Atlanta Hawks. As a JC All-American and the starting point guard of the Olympic team, Tom Henderson was considered to be the "Rolls Royce" of all point guard recruits in 1972 when UH signed him.
