49ers | Team rejected trade involving Lelie
Sat, 22 Apr 2006 12:02:42 -0700

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers rejected a trade with the Denver Broncos that involved Broncos WR Ashley Lelie. The Broncos were shopping Lelie for a second-round pick. 49ers vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan said, "He does have some talent. He's more of a vertical guy, outside the numbers, and can stretch the field, but we had some issues with other things. (I'm) not saying he wouldn't fit in, but ... what kind of football player are we going to have when it's said and done?" He said the team would be interested if the Broncos' asking price drops dramatically.

They don't want to stretch the field cause they don't have a guy who can throw that far.

I really dont understand why the Broncos are so down on Ashley...I really dont think he's the problem, its there offense. The broncos are a running team, and when they do pass, Plummer only looks to pass to Smith only...I read that the Broncos also offered Ashley to the Packers for Javon Walker. But Packers want a 1st rd pick for Walker, crazy Walker is coming off a Knee injury ...Looks like some team is going to score a solid Wr in Lelie soon..Imagine if Ashley went to a team like the Colts?

looks like ashlie could be packing his bags now that the broncos have picked up jevon walker. ironically, it was walker who was chosen right after lelie in that year's NFL draft.

too bad since the broncos finally got someone in jay cutler who can throw the long ball unlike jake plummer.

Appears that the one WR is a TE/H-back type. The other is more a PR/KR type. Probably still means that Ashley is out the door but the two draftees do not seem like front line receivers.
