Kai injured in USA's loss to Germany

FARO, Portugal >> Former University of Hawaii standout Natasha Kai was injured while playing for the United States women’s national soccer team in today’s final of the 2006 Algarve Cup against Germany.
In the 116th minute, Kai and German midfielder Kerstin Garefrekes went down after a head-to-head collision. Kai left the field on a stretcher. The extent of her injury was not immediately known.
Germany won the match 4-3 on penalty kicks after playing to a 0-0 tie after two 15-minute overtime periods.
The Americans were the defending three-time champions.
Kai entered the contest in the 67th minute for Heather O'Reilly. The former Rainbow Wahine had a breakaway down the right side early in the first overtime period, but her cross went right to German goalkeeper Silke Rottenberg.
In the 112th minute, Kai executed a bicycle kick from close range but her shot was wide.
