He was the only current coach Mardner thanked in his transfer announcement.

I wonder is Mardner follows coach Davis?

Assistant coaches leaving for other jobs is nothing new across college football.

True dat. A good coach is going to get a better paying job. Davis played at Auburn and coached at Auburn and FSU. I doubt he had any connections to Hawaii. Good luck, coach.

Agree. With the coaching carousel the way it is assistant coaches should apply for the best job that they can get.
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

no young coach has plans to be an assistant forever. It is all about building your resume and your network of head coaches. It is like any other job.............your goal is to get promotions and pay raises. Congrats to Marcus! Being in demand is a good thing.

It would be one thing if it’s a promotion but he took the same job at Georgia Southern. Since when is Georgia Southern a better job than Hawaii?

When you are from that part of the country. It's more like going home. Hawaii may seem foreign to some. Like players, some coaches just don't fit in. Imagine going to Foodland to shop, and you are the only one of color.

Some of the mainland guys would experience the same thing in reverse. Go into a McDonalds, and everyone is black, white, or mexican. Days like this, sometimes you just want to be back on the Aina. No one said anything to you, but you just know you stand out.

The Georgia Southern HC earns the same as Graham. Davis could be getting paid more at GS and the Cost of living could be cheaper.

Could also want to expand his recruiting base down south and one day move up to coach in the SEC since he's an Auburn grad and Florida native.

Also GS DC, LB & DL coaches are coming from UDUB so Clay Helton is loading up his staff with coaches from P5 schools.

Best of luck to coach

there are coaches who want to coach here and are not just using this place as a stepping stone. I started a thread about "fit" right after Graham got hired and got roasted for it and the thread got shut down. Every time you talk about Hawaii ties being a prereq for coaching here, people lambaste you for being small minded. yet here we are, with even more solid evidence that fit matters.
