The SEC West is now six highly established head coaches (Saban, Malzahn, Orgeron, Jimbo, Kiffin, Leach) and Sam Pittman. Best of luck Arkansas.

K Cam Little is the only kicker in the country who has not missed a field goal on at least eight attempts.

His eight made field goals are tied for second in the FBS and the most among freshman kickers.

No. 8 Arkansas vs. No. 2 Georgia, score, predictions, top performers

Post by HawaiianHogster »

https://247sports.com/college/arkansas/ ... 171911682/

The Arkansas Razorbacks picked up another massive win Saturday, beating the Texas A&M Aggies 20-10. The win vaulted the Hogs into the top 10 for the first time in almost a decade and generated more national buzz around the program. They now turn their attention to the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in their first true road game of the 2021 season.

Sam Pittman spent four years as the offensive line coach at Georgia prior to taking over as the Razorbacks' head coach. The Bulldogs picked up a 37-10 victory last season in Pittman's head coaching debut, but this game has an entirely different feel.

Arkansas has been one of the biggest surprises in college football this year and have been as impressive as anyone in the country. Will they be able to keep the magic going this week and shake up the world of college football? Kickoff between the Razorbacks and Bulldogs is set for 11 a.m. (CDT) inside Sanford Stadium in Athens (Ga.).

HATRED FOR GEORGIA?
Unlike Texas and Texas A&M, the Georgia Bulldogs do not have an historic rivalry with the Razorbacks. The two programs have met 11 times since Arkansas joined the SEC, but it has not been a particularly notable series. Many Hog fans fondly remember the Hogs' last trip to Athens, which ended with a game-winning touchdown from Ryan Mallett to Greg Childs in the final seconds. Since that game, Georgia has been one of the most consistent winners in college football, and the Razorbacks are still working their way back to prominence. There seems to be a lot of mutual respect between the coaching staffs, but how do you feel about the Georgia Bulldogs?

JT DANIELS PASSING YARDS?
Saturday will be an interesting test for the Hogs in more ways than one. Everyone knows about the Bulldog defense, but they also have the best quarterback the Razorbacks have faced thus far. Casey Thompson is a talented player who has had success since the Arkansas-Texas game, but he entered late into a game that was already decided. The Arkansas pass defense is currently ranked 8th in the FBS, and they will get to go against a formidable challenge in Daniels. The Razorbacks have been able to rattle every quarterback they've faced to this point. Will that continue this week against the Bulldogs?

ARKANSAS TEAM RUSHING YARDS?
The Razorback rushing offense has passed every test this season with flying colors. They racked up 197 yards on the ground against the Texas A&M defense, which was the nation's No. 1 scoring defense prior to the game. Arkansas ranks 8th in the FBS in rushing yards per game, and Georgia ranks 7th in the FBS in rushing yards allowed per game. Something has to give, so which one will it be? The good news for the Hogs is that they should be healthier on the offensive line this week, and KJ Jefferson's knee injury does not appear to be serious. Will the Razorbacks impose their will against Georgia's elite defensive front?

WHO SCORES THE FIRST TOUCHDOWN?
The trend continued this week as the Razorbacks have now had four different players score the first touchdown in each game. KJ Jefferson opened the season with a rushing touchdown before Dominique Johnson and Trelon Smith scored on the ground in the following weeks. Arkansas went to the air for their first touchdown against the Aggies, an 85-yard bomb to Treylon Burks. The X-factor here is the fact that the Georgia defense has only allowed one touchdown all season, and it came during the fourth quarter of a blowout. The Razorbacks could have to get creative to try and put points on the board, so it's anyone's guess as to who will score the first touchdown this week.

RESULT OF FIRST DRIVE?
The Hogs have now had two three-and-outs, a rushing touchdown and a made field goal on their opening drives in 2021. Georgia's four opponents have combined for 37 total yards on their opening drives this season, which is even crazier when you realize that South Carolina picked up 56 yards on their drive. The Gamecocks were able to get a field goal out of that drive, and the Razorbacks will be looking to score on their first possession for the third straight week. With a little bit of help from the 11 a.m. kickoff, Arkansas could potentially neutralize the Bulldogs' homefield advantage if they can find success early.

KJ JEFFERSON TOTAL OFFENSE?
Jefferson is currently the only SEC quarterback with 800+ passing yards and 200+ rushing yards. He won over many members of the Arkansas fan base with his gutsy performance against the Aggies and has proven to be the right man for the Razorback offense. Despite missing the majority of the second half, he racked up 262 yards of total offense against the nation's best pass defense. Will he be able to keep it up against a stingy Georgia defense? The Bulldogs have not allowed a 200-yard passer in any of their first four games, but neither had the Aggies prior to this past Saturday.

LEADING RUSHER FOR ARKANSAS?
Starting running back Trelon Smith has led the Hogs in rushing yards in three of the first four games, but several different guys have seen a lot of work. Pittman admitted after the game that they would like to play Dominique Johnson more, and he also says they like getting AJ Green in for special plays. KJ Jefferson is currently the team's second leading rusher with 230 yards, and Raheim Sanders has had at least six carries in each game. Rushing yards could be harder to come by against the Bulldogs, so the Hogs could need someone to step up and provide a spark. Who do you see leading the charge on the ground this weekend?

OFFENSIVE MVP (NON-QB)?
Against the Aggies, KJ Jefferson removed any doubt that he is the most important player on the Arkansas offense. He will likely need to play well if the Hogs want to have a chance against Georgia, but who do you see stepping up to help him out? Treylon Burks was just named the SEC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Aggies (167 receiving yards, 14 rushing yards). The Razorbacks also have a nice stable of running backs, and players like Tyson Morris and Warren Thompson who always seem to come up with key plays in big moments. Could we see someone under-the-radar pop up to make a splash against the Bulldogs?

DEFENSIVE MVP?
The Razorbacks have two All-SEC players in Jalen Catalon and Grant Morgan, but they've also had several different defenders provide a huge spark. Most recently, Tre Williams was named the SEC's Defensive Lineman of the Week for his dominant performance against Texas A&M. Linebackers Hayden Henry and Bumper Pool always seem to be making plays all over the field, and defensive tackle John Ridgeway has provided a huge boost to the D-Line. Which defensive player do you see having the best day against the Bulldogs?

ARKANSAS-GEORGIA GAME RESULT
13
COMMENTS
Arkansas has won each of their first four games by double digits, but they will now take on arguably the best team in the country. Georgia picked up a 10-3 victory over Clemson in Week 1, but that win looks a lot less impressive now. Arkansas is the best team the Bulldogs have faced as well, so it should be an exciting one for both fan bases. This game will have a lot of hype surrounding it with ESPN's College Gameday in attendance. Will Georgia prove to be the real deal, or will the Hogs continue their magical run?

Tre Williams leaving his mark on Arkansas football programby Trey Biddy15 hours ago

Arkansas super senior grad transfer defensive end addition Tre Williams has had as big of an impact as anybody on the Razorback defense this season and is a strong, strong candidate so for Razorback newcomer of the year honors. He has been extremely disruptive since rising through the ranks to the first team defense in the preseason, and the Hogs are really lucky to have his presence off the edge.

He is coming off an SEC Defensive Player of the Week performance against Texas A&M in which he had two sacks and three quarterback hurries, but that doesn't begin to tell the whole story. He also drew two holding calls (and was held other times that weren't called), and he also caused left tackle Jahmir Johnson to be hit with a false start on Texas A&M's second series for trying to come out of his stance a tad early. There were a couple other times Johnson could have been flagged but wasn't. Williams faced three different left tackles in the game.

"That was my first Defensive Player of the Week, so it felt good to actually do it here," Williams said. "I planned on coming here and doing everything I said I was going to do. Just being able to dominate at end and encourage my teammates, actually being able to see it come to life was pretty nice."

Williams also had a really nice play by completely collapsing the A&M line when he got leverage inside tight end Max Wright on a second-and-3 running play by Isaiah Spiller with 9:07 left in the first half. Montaric Brown and John Ridgeway, who were both also played well Saturday, got credit for the tackle for a loss of four yards, but Williams destroyed any chance of the play having success. The very next play, Williams made his first sack on third-and-7. His second sack came when he shoved A&M five-star tackle Kenyon Green into Zach Calzada, knocking him down.

"Oh man, Tre, Tre Williams, he’s a wonderful player and a great player to be exact," Razorback junior running back Trelon Smith said. "I’ve watched him since he’s been here. From the very first snap, I knew he was going to be special. He’s got a great get-off. He’s got an eye for the ball. Soon as it’s snapped, he’s coming off the ball real fast. I went against that all spring, all fall camp."

But enough about last week... Williams will have a tougher challenge this week. He'll line up across from massive Georgia senior left tackle Jamaree Salyer on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder is an Associated Press Preseason second team All-America selection, and he has started all four games for the Bulldogs this season after starting all 10 last season, including nine at left tackle.

"Me going in and getting the scouting report, 69, his size is 325," Williams said. "I know for a fact that he's a good player, he's an 83% pass setting, so he's a good guy to go against, but I know for a fact that going into preparation this week I've got to be on cue. I've got to know my assignment, as well as pay attention to my keys in order to enjoy this outcome of the game."

So far this season, Williams is tied for sixth on the team with 15 tackles, which leads all defensive linemen. He has already racked up four sacks, which is more than double the number produced by an other Razorback player. The whole roster combined outside of Williams has six total sacks. Eric Gregory led the Hogs with 1.5 sacks in 2020. The last time any Razorback player had more sacks during an entire season than Williams does right now was in 2019 when Jamario Bell had 4.5. Williams is currently on pace to make 12 sacks this season.

In 2018 at Missouri under former head coach and current Razorback defensive coordinator Barry Odom, Williams started in a 43-29 loss to the Bulldogs in Columbia and had one tackle. In 2019, he started again as the Tigers travelled to Athens, where they fell 27-0. Williams had four tackles in that one. He did not play in last year's game, though former and current teammate Markell Utsey who also transferred in from Missouri had four tackles in the contest.

"For my teammates that haven’t seen an environment like that, I’d just say, ‘Soak in the moment. Live in the moment.’ Because it’s going to be a heck of an environment, so live in the moment," Williams said. "Being on the field, you might not be able to hear, so focus on your keys, look to the sideline, get the play, execute, go hard. Just do what you’re supposed to do. Do your job, and we’ll come out with something nice."

"He's a good football player," Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said. "I know, because he gave us trouble when I was at Georgia. I had two first-round left tackles... Georgia did, I didn't, Georgia did... But we had a hard time blocking him when he was a freshman and sophomore."

After last season under new head coach Eliah Drinkwitz, Williams transferred to Houston. He was there a semester before changing course and re-entering the portal. It's safe to say that without Odom now at Arkansas, Williams and Utsey probably would have landed somewhere else.

"Barry Odom, me and him, we have a real special relationship," Williams said. "I think everybody on the defense has a special relationship. Even our offense has a special relationship with Barry Odom. Just the way he prepares us and the way he talks to us and gets us riled up and the way he lets us know we’re family and all we’ve got is each other is what I love about Barry Odom."

Keys to Victory & Five Burning Questions: Arkansas vs. Georgia
ByCURTIS WILKERSON 19 hours ago

ECU coach Cliff Godwin on Carson Whisenhunt, Gavin Williams

x
College GameDay will be in town when No. 8 Arkansas will travel to Athens (Ga.) this weekend for a heavyweight matchup against No. 2 Georgia. Saturday's kickoff from Sanford Stadium is set for 11 a.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series over the Hogs, 11-4, including last season's 37-10 win in Sam Pittman's debut in Fayetteville in a game the Razorbacks led midway through the third quarter. Arkansas' last win in the series came on its last trip to Athens, a 31-24 victory on Sept. 18, 2010.

Arkansas (4-0) is off to its best start since 2003 and has made a rapid climb up the rankings with impressive victories over Texas and Texas A&M. Georgia (4-0) opened the season with a big win over Clemson and has dispatched of UAB, South Carolina and Vanderbilt with ease since.

"They’re an outstanding football team, one. Two, they’re able to play a lot of players and develop them because they have been so dominant in the early parts of the game," said Pittman. "They’re giving up 185 yards a game on defense. It’s hard to get a first down. When it’s hard to get a first down their offense is out there a lot and able to score a lot of points.

"Which they’ve scored over 100 points in the last two games. What it tells me is they’ve got the best team in the country. If not the best, they’re certainly 1 or 2, just like they’re rated. We know the task is going to be very difficult because we understand what kind of players they have and what kind of coaching staff they have."

Here are five burning questions and keys to victory for the Razorbacks on the road this weekend against Georgia.

FIVE BURNING QUESTIONS

1.) WHERE DOES ARKANSAS STAND AMONG THE ELITE?

(Photo: Jerome Miron , USA TODAY Sports)
Through four weeks, Arkansas has proven that not only is it no longer the doormat of the SEC West, this group of Razorbacks is a bonafide Top 25 team. Nobody in this league is looking forward to seeing the Hogs on the schedule. However, Arkansas will be lined up across from a legitimate national championship contender who is both healthy and battle tested this weekend.

There's a reason Georgia opened as an 18.5-point favorite. They are the more talented team. They've been there, done that and they're at home. Not many will project Arkansas to win this game, although they've shown a knack for proving naysayers wrong, but they don't have to in order to prove they have some staying power even with the gauntlet that lies ahead.

Arkansas gave Georgia all it wanted for two-and-a-half quarters last season. Have they closed the gap enough to do the same for a full 60 minutes this time around?

2.) RAZORBACKS READY FOR TRUE ROAD ENVIRONMENT?

(Photo: 247Sports)
Arkansas has played in front of some great atmospheres already this season. The environment in Fayetteville for the Texas win was incredible, but it was a home game. Last weekend at AT&T Stadium was special, but it was close to a 50/50 split between Razorback and Aggie faithful. Pittman said after the game that he felt his team handled the noise well aside from a key goal line possession in the fourth quarter.

College GameDay is in Athens (Ga.) this weekend and Georgia coach Kirby Smart is calling on his fanbase to show up and show out for Saturday's top 10 matchup with the Hogs. It's going to hit different when 90,000+ at Sanford Stadium are bearing down on the Razorbacks. While this is a veteran group, it's been quite some time since they experienced a true hostile road environment.

Poise, communication and hand signals will all be key for a team that has struggled with penalties and can ill-afford mistakes in this game. Rest assured, the volume has been cranked up on the practice fields this week in preparation.

3.) WILL HOGS FIND ENOUGH POINTS IN ATHENS?

(Photo: Jerome Miron , USA TODAY Sports)
Through four games, Georgia has allowed a grand total of 23 points. The defense has allowed one touchdown, a fourth quarter score by South Carolina in a 40-6 game. Opponents have reached the red zone against the Bulldogs just four times, and they lead the country in both scoring and total defense while ranking top 10 in both rushing and pass defense as well as sacks per game.

On the surface, it sure seems like it might be tough sledding for the Arkansas offense on Saturday, right? Well, not so fast. Just last week, the Razorbacks faced a Texas A&M team who at the time ranked among the best in the country in several categories. Arkansas gouged the Aggies in the first half to the tune of 307 yards and a number of chunk plays as Kendal Briles seemed to be pressing all the right buttons.

Losing KJ Jefferson for a large portion of the second half slowed things down, but the start was eye opening to say the least. Can the Hogs find a weakness in the Bulldogs' defense? Saturday would be an ideal day for a defensive touchdown, as well, if you're Arkansas.

4.) CAN ARKANSAS GET TO JT DANIELS CONSISTENTLY?

(Photo: Jim Dedmon, USA TODAY Sports)
When Georgia was finally able to turn to JT Daniels at quarterback last season, the offense really started to take off. So far in 2021, aside from missing one game with injury, he has picked back up right where he left off. His 76.1 completion percentage (54-of-71) leads the SEC.

If Daniels gets time to survey, he has the type of arm talent to pick any defense apart. He's capable of connecting on the deep ball and will take his shots, but he's more than willing to dink and dunk his way through drives, which is likely what Arkansas' defense will allow. He is 16-of-18 passing on third downs this season.

However, Daniels is not the most fleet of foot and does most of his damage from inside the pocket. He's only been sacked twice and pressured on less than 15 percent of his drop backs. The revamped defensive line for Arkansas has made waves this season. Facing their toughest challenge yet, will they be able to generate enough consistent pass rush to make Daniels uncomfortable and possibly force a mistake or two?

Keys For No. 8 Arkansas to Upset No. 2 Georgia

Post by HawaiianHogster »

https://www.nwahomepage.com/sports/pig- ... 2-georgia/
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Pig Trail Nation) — No. 8 Arkansas is 4-0 on the season, but for the third time in five games they enter the contest as the underdog.

They defeated No. 15 Texas and No. 7 Texas A&M along the way to being ranked where they are now. The next opponent is No. 2 Georgia on Saturday and they must face them in Athens in front of a hostile crowd.

No. 8 Arkansas Ready to Challenge No. 2 Georgia on Saturday
Arkansas played Rice, Texas and Georgia Southern in Fayetteville. They played the Aggies in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, but it appeared the Hogs had at least as many fans there as the Aggies and possibly even more. That won’t be the case on Saturday.

ADVERTISING

Here’s the keys for Arkansas to pull an upset over the Bulldogs.

Take The Crowd Out of Game Early

It’s important for Arkansas to take the fight to Georgia early and not allow the crowd to get into the game. Make this a four-quarter game and the Hogs have a good shot at getting out of town with a win. The longer the Hogs stay in the game the confidence will grow. It also helps silence the fans some.

Cut Out Penalties in Red Zone

A penalty in the red zone has cost Arkansas dearly the past two weeks. Against Georgia Southern Ketron Jackson thought he had caught a touchdown pass from KJ Jefferson, but it was called back due to a lineman down the field. On Saturday, Arkansas was on the A&M one only to have a lineman jump. It pushed the ball back to the six and the Hogs had to settle for a field goal. There was some complaining from the Arkansas bench on Saturday the A&M linebackers were clapping and forced the Arkansas player to jump. But if the officials don’t call it then it’s just something you have to live with and try to correct or prepare for possibly happening again.

Play a Clean Game on Offense

Don’t turn the ball over. Arkansas has done a good job in the first four games of not turning the football over that much. That is a necessity on Saturday in Athens. If Arkansas doesn’t turn the ball over and makes Georgia earn everything that greatly improves the Hogs’ chances of winning the game.

Don’t Give Up Big Plays

Barry Odom’s defense has been good in this regard. They allowed Isaiah Spiller to get loose once for a long run on Saturday and the previous week they allowed the Georgia Southern quarterback to score on a long run. Other than those two runs, Arkansas has been very good in that regard. Rice hit on a long pass, but for the most part the secondary has prevented the big plays. If Odom’s defense continues to play like they have the first four games the Hogs should be in this game until the end.

Make Special Teams Special

Other than a blocked punt against Rice the special teams have been outstanding. Word from a source at Georgia is the Bulldogs have spotted something in Arkansas’ punting game that makes them feel they can block a punt this week. Arkansas can’t afford for that to happen. Cam Little has been great on his kicks, Vito Calvaruso has been excellent on kickoffs and Bauer has been good punting the majority of the time. Just make sure special teams are special and that will greatly help Hogs’ chances of moving to 5-0.

Final Before Game Time

Post by HawaiianHogster »

Welp, We shall find out what level the Hogs are capable of playing. It's almost game time baby!

Does Arkansas stand a chance? You DAMN right they do.

Most pundits believe that Georgia will win easily. Maybe have a hard time of it in the first qtr or so before they run away with it.

They keep saying the Hogs can't keep up with all the 5 stars with speed. Whatever.

No matter the outcome. I know the Hogs will give it their best shot for four qtrs whether they are down 7 or down 50 points. Georgia will be punched and punched really hard.

Just like coach Pittman, I too look at effort. These Hogs do not lack effort.

Go Hawgs Beat the Bulldawgs!!!!!!!

Oh yea before I forget. Shout out to our Warriors on Homecoming. May this be another Saturday of Twofer's.

Holy Cow! Two weekends in a row we play against the same mascot.

Coincidence?

If we band together and fight. We can win them both. Cheeeehoooooo!!!

Go Warriors Beat the Bulldawgs!!!!!!!!!!

Two major upsets in the making. Hahahahahahahaahaha

37 - 0 Georgia Win

Post by HawaiianHogster »

I haven't watched the game yet. Been at the beach all day cooking for our son's baby shower. I will watch it later for sure.

From the score I believe Georgia's defense is for real big time. They have built a team over the years with success. I knew, like most people, it would only be a matter of time that Georgia would be good enough to win it all. Looks like this year could be it if they can win the rest and beat Alabama in the SECT.

I'm glad they took the Hogs serious and showed us where we stand up to this point. I know our team expected to be in this game to the end. I just hope it doesn't deflate their heart, effort or will to win the next game. The Hogs now know their weakness. They know now it will take more to beat teams like Georgia. I pray all the coaches stay at Arkansas to build that program that will compete at a higher level. They are well on their way to doing that in year two.

All is not lost even after a loss like that. They have plenty more games that will challenge their will. Learn and move forward.

I still love this team and still feel they can win enough games to go bowling. 10 - 2 is still possible but a tall task for sure.

Even though the buildup to the game was awesome, I wouldn't change anything. It just means more. It means they stay together as a family and work harder.

It will be interesting to see how quickly they can get this loss out of their minds and work harder for Ole Miss next Saturday in Mississippi. That will be a payback game from last years Ole Miss loss to the Hogs.

As you see the schedule doesn't get any better as far as being easy. SEC play is tough week in and week out.

My heart is very happy for our Warriors! WOW! Who would've thought they would beat Fresno State? I knew they had a chance because the game is played on the field. Awesome job Warriors! Keep on keeping on. With a backup QB too. Who is that kid? I will have to watch that game too since I recorded it. Unbelievable, just unbelievable. What a win for the program, the players that have bought in, for the state, and especially for the fans. Up Yours Ige!!!!!!! What a tool he is. Yuck.

ON To Mississippi

Post by HawaiianHogster »

Alrighty then. Now that that humbling lesson is over with. It's time to move on to our next game with Mississippi. Mississippi had a tough time with Alabama but were about to score points unlike my Razorbacks.

Last Saturday won't win or lose this Saturday's game. The Razorbacks are underdogs again. Started out @ 7 point dogs. Just as Coach Pittman said they haven't been favored in any SEC game. Yet the Razorbacks are improving on that. With two SEC games down @ 1 win & 1 loss, the Hogs are hungry for redemption. They believe they belong with the best in the SEC and will do their best to show it this Saturday.

Coral the QB for Mississippi is revenge minded from last years loss to the Razorbacks with 6 interceptions. He hasn't thrown an interception this year. They are a high powered scoring machine. They can run and pass and the QB has pretty good legs too. The Hogs defense will have a tough time slowing them down.

The Razorbacks offense has proved they can run and pass. They have 4 to 5 RB's that can play. However the O-line must dominate the Mississippi D-line. Pittman will add two more offensive lineman to the mix at the guard position. He needs to create competition at those positions and if they perform well they will have more playing time this Saturday.

I'm sure both teams and coaches will be prepared for this game. Being played @ Mississippi will give them the home field advantage. We saw the outcome of that last week against both teams against superior talent and speed in all phases.

This game will be pivotal for both teams as it should place the winner behind Alabama in the West division of the SEC. That would be huge for both programs moving forward.

I look for a much better performance by the Razorbacks in all phases of the game. Will it be enough to steal a win? I sure hope so. I'm rooting for it happen. WOOOO PIG SOOIE.
