Tough Loss Stings But Don’t Jump Off Bandwagon

Post by HawaiianHogster »

https://www.arkansasfight.com/2020/10/31/21544054/tough-loss-stings-but-dont-jump-off-bandwagon-yet

By Jacob S Davis Oct 31, 2020, 10:36pm CDT

Arkansas fought hard in a 42-31 loss to the eighth ranked team in the country, the Texas A&M Aggies. Throughout the game and after the game you could tell Arkansas social media became frustrated with what they saw on the field. Even some fans were seen mocking head coach Sam Pittman when he said his Razorbacks were “done embarrassing this state and university.”

First of all, I didn’t see a single player give up, I never saw a coach quit coaching his players on the sideline and I definitely never saw the Razorbacks go down without a fight.

We saw this sort of game in Eric Musselman’s first season with the Razorback men’s basketball team when they played on the road at Tennessee. They lost that night 82-61 but never stopped playing hard or embarrassed their school that night. Some nights you just don’t have it.

The Razorback offense was the best we have seen all season. They generated 461 yards of offense and Feliepe Franks did nearly all the damage himself with 330 yards of total offense. Franks was 23/31 passing for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had 91 yards rushing with a couple of 20 yard runs sprinkled throughout the game.

Rakeem Boyd came back rushing hard for 100 yards on 18 carries. He had a late touchdown to pull the Hogs within 11 before the clock hit zero.

The Razorback defense stiffened a little bit towards the start of the fourth quarter but it could’ve been due to the Aggies trying to run the clock out. The Aggies finished with 442 total yards and Kellen Mond was terrific, as usual, against the Razorbacks. Mond finished 21/26 for 260 yards and three touchdowns.

There were no special team gaffes this week either. The punt coverage was outstanding for the most part and kickoffs were never really allowed during this one. Most of those were sent through the endzone.

The game came down to who could execute their offense the best and it was Texas A&M. The Razorbacks left some points on the field tonight with two missed field goals. That was the ultimate difference in this ball game.

It’s not time to throw the towel in as a fan. It’s not the time to start throwing your players, coaches and football program under the bus. It’s definitely not time to panic. The best is yet to come.

Players and fans on Twitter after the game

So much more to come. The coaches encouraged us to fight to the very end and that’s what we did. Unfortunately we didn’t come out with the victory but we learned a lot from it. Teammates encouraged each other to keep fighting as well. We will be back!

Hurting to my core on that one but I’m so proud of this team...#BouncebackRed heartBoar

Have to say have not seen a hitter like you at Arkansas since Steve Atwater. Hard to keep you head away when offensive player lowers the boom. It's an adjustment that takes time. I believe offensive players should be held accountable when they lower their helments too!!!

Statistically, this game was extremely close. We were even better in most categories. A few defensive stops, and scoring after good drives could’ve made the difference. Stating the obvious I know, but we’re not far off. Still think we’re headed up.

Hogs Prove Experts Wrong. Cover 11.5 Spread Again

Post by HawaiianHogster »

The ending result was not what I was hoping for. I'm not sure where the defense was of past games. The offense keeps improving every game. Special teams needs work on Field Goals, missed two field goals, or just go for the first on 4th down. What do you have to lose when your the mighty underdog by double digits?

TAMU is for real. That offense was efficient. That defense gave our offense fits.

The defense held them scoreless the fourth quarter. The offense scored two TD's in the fourth quarter. Too little too late.

The Razorbacks could have won this one. They made too many mistakes. I don't like Bye weeks. For the past several years after a Bye week our team seems to not play as good. Hopefully the next 5 games will be played without delay.

The team and coaches want to win and will only be satisfied with winning. They will work hard to fix the mistakes and prepare for Tennessee next Saturday.

The Hogs made the betters happy if they bet the Hogs +11.5 or higher. The line started at 15.

Next year the Razorbacks will be even better. They will get great recruits, walk-on's, returning players, returning Seniors, and transfers.

It only gets better from here.

10 Things To Know – Tennessee

Post by HawaiianHogster »

10 Things to Know Before Kickoff
https://arkansasrazorbacks.com/10-things-to-know-tennessee/

1. – Arkansas fell at No. 8 Texas A&M last week, 42-31, but showed promise offensively, recording a season-high 461 total yards, the most in an SEC game since 2018 against Ole Miss (477). The Razorbacks gashed Texas A&M’s defense for a season-best 222 rushing yards, which is 147 more yards than the Aggies were allowing per game on average. Arkansas outscored the Aggies, 14-0, in the fourth quarter behind a 167-21 advantage in total yards.

2. – Sophomore WR Treylon Burks continued to show the SEC he is one of its best receivers, making a game-high seven receptions for 117 yards against the Aggies while scoring two touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career. The Warren, Ark. product eclipsed 100 receiving yards for the second straight game – becoming the first Hog to do so since Keon Hatcher in 2016 – and third time this season. Over his last two games against Texas A&M and Ole Miss, Burks has made 18 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns. He leads the team with 26 receptions for 366 yards and four touchdowns while his 6.5 catches per game rank fourth in the SEC and 91.5 receiving yards per game is fifth among conference leaders.

3. – Making a return to the school where he started his career, senior RB Rakeem Boyd impressed at Kyle Field, rushing for a season-high 100 yards while scoring his second TD of the year. Reaching the 100-yard mark for the ninth time of his career, Boyd is one of just 11 rushers in school history to have at least nine career 100+ yard rushing performances. On a seven-yard rush in the second quarter, the Houston, Texas native became the first Arkansas RB to eclipse 2,000 career yards since Alex Collins (2013-15).

4. – Redshirt freshman TE Hudson Henry made a career-high six receptions at Texas A&M, which is also the most by a Razorback tight end this season. Only 12 times over the last eight seasons has an Arkansas TE made six or more grabs in a game. Henry scored his first career touchdown earlier this season at No. 16 Mississippi State, becoming the first Razorback freshman TE to make a touchdown reception since Cheyenne O’Grady in the 2016 Belk Bowl against No. 22 Virginia Tech.

5. – Despite playing one or two fewer games than most of the nation’s leaders, Arkansas’ defense ranks second in the country with 10 interceptions, and its three defensive scores are tied for the FBS lead. The Razorbacks lead the SEC in turnover margin (1.20) and rank second in red zone defense (68.2%), team passing efficiency defense (121.34) and fourth in third down percentage defense (36.7%).

6. – Junior LB Bumper Pool led Arkansas in tackles for the second time this season, making a game-high 14 tackles with a career-high 3.0 tackles for loss. Pool is second on the team, making 50 tackles in four games, while his average of 12.5 tackles per game leads the SEC and ranks third nationally. Last season in 12 games, the Lucas, Texas native was second on the team with 94 tackles.

8. – Even after leaving the Texas A&M game in the first half due to a targeting penalty, redshirt freshman DB Jalen Catalon’s 46 tackles this season still ranks as the most by any SEC freshman over the season’s first five games since 2000. He leads the team with 30 solo tackles and has made at least nine total tackles in all but one game this year. The redshirt freshman contributed to Arkansas’ nation-leading 10 interceptions, returning a pick 35-yards for a TD against Ole Miss.

9. – For just the second time in the last 10 seasons and 19th time overall, the Razorbacks and Volunteers will meet on the gridiron. Despite trailing 5-13 in the series, Arkansas has won three of the last four meetings, including the last two, 24-20, on Oct. 3, 2015 in Knoxville and, 49-7, on Nov. 12, 2011 in Fayetteville. The teams have met just 15 times since Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992, with Tennessee leading the set, 10-5. Arkansas and Tennessee faced off for the first time on Nov. 18, 1907 in Memphis, Tenn., and did not play again until the 1971 Liberty Bowl, won by the Volunteers, 14-13.

10. – Tennessee (2-3, 2-3 SEC) enters Saturday’s matchup against the Hogs, having dropped its last three games to No. 5 Georgia, Kentucky and No. 1 Alabama by an average of 29 points per game. Senior QB Jarrett Guarantano is a veteran who has started 30 games in his career, and this season has completed 83-of-135 passes for 914 yards with six TDs to three INTs. Sophomore RB Eric Gray is the top rushing threat, running for 355 yards and two scores, while Guarantano leads in rushing TDs (3). Senior WR Josh Palmer has elevated his play, scoring a team-leading four TDs after having three in his first three seasons combined. Defensively, junior DB Trevon Flowers has forced a fumble, broken up two passes and made a team-best 35 tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt is 15-15 over his three seasons in Knoxville.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-picks-schedule-predictions-against-the-spread-odds-for-big-top-25-games-in-week-10/

An SEC battle is on tap between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Tennessee Volunteers at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Both teams are 2-3; Arkansas is 1-1 at home, while Tennessee is 1-1 on the road. Arkansas, however, has been a great team for bettors to back this season. The Razorbacks are 5-0 against the spread, while Tennessee has covered just once in five games.

The Volunteers are favored by 1.5 points in the latest Arkansas vs. Tennessee odds from William Hill Sportsbook. The over-under for total points expected is set at 52.5. Before entering any Tennessee vs. Arkansas picks, you'll want to see the college football predictions from the model at SportsLine.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Over the past four-plus years, the proprietary computer model has generated a stunning profit of over $4,100 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is a sizzling 31-19 on all top-rated picks through nine weeks of the 2020 college football season, returning over $600 in profit already. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns.

Now, the model has set its sights on Arkansas vs. Tennessee. You can head to SportsLine to see its picks. Here are several college football odds for Tennessee vs. Arkansas:

Arkansas vs. Tennessee spread: Arkansas +1.5
Arkansas vs. Tennessee over-under: 52 points
Arkansas vs. Tennessee money line: Arkansas 105, Tennessee -125
Latest Odds:
Razorbacks +2
What you need to know about Arkansas
The Razorbacks have taken a big step forward under new head coach Sam Pittman, a former Tennessee offensive line coach. After going 2-9 last year, Arkansas is 2-3 through five games this year and is far more competitive. All three losses have come against teams that were ranked at the time, including a 30-28 loss at then-No. 13 Auburn on Oct. 10.

The Razorbacks have a pair of capable running backs in Trelon Smith and Rakeem Boyd. But perhaps the biggest difference this season is that Arkansas has found stability at quarterback from Florida transfer Feleipe Franks. He's completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,213 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. Treylon Burks has emerged as a go-to target as he's put together an impressive 26-366-4 receiving line.

What you need to know about Tennessee
After a 2-0 start and a competitive first half against then-No. 3 Georgia, the Vols have fallen apart. The Bulldogs outscored Tennessee 27-0 in the second half as they came back to win that game on Oct. 10. Tennessee then was blown out in back-to-back weeks at home, falling 34-7 against Kentucky and 48-17 against No. 2 Alabama.

There are issues on both sides of the ball for Jeremy Pruitt's team. After giving up just 14.5 points per game through two weeks, Tennessee gave up 42 points per outing over the last three games. On offense, the Vols are sticking with quarterback Jarrett Guarantano as the starter this week, but he's been inconsistent, completing 61.5 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and three interceptions.

How to make Tennessee vs. Arkansas picks
SportsLine's model has simulated Arkansas vs. Tennessee 10,000 times and the results are in. The model is leaning under the total, and it's also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in over 50 percent of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Arkansas vs. Tennessee? And which side of the spread is hitting in over 50 percent of simulations? Visit SportsLine right now to see which side of the spread you need to jump on, all from the computer model that has crushed its college football picks.

Re: New Head Coach for Arkansas Football

Post by HawaiianHogster »

Tennessee looks similar to TAMU in that they have big physical linemen. You saw what happened to the Hogs defense when facing those type of players. So will the Hogs defense improve their play and tackle better against the run? Will the Hogs defense be able to cover their receivers unlike last week against TAMU? Can the Hogs defense come up with enough stops, takeaways, or interceptions to give our offense great field position?

The Hogs Offense is improving every game. Can they be more consistant on drives, making first downs, keeping their defense on the sideline, and putting points on the scoreboard at the same time burning the clock??

The Hogs special teams needs to take advantage of long field goals, PAT's, Punt returns and punt coverage. Eliminate stupid penalties.

For the Hogs to win they have to play near perfect. That doesn't mean they can't be competitive if they aren't near perfect. As long as they keep themselves in the game in the fourth quarter, I believe they will pull out a win.

If the Razorbacks show up and play their game. My prediction, which will have no influeance on the outcome, Hogs win 42 - 38.

Hogs after bye weeks not so good. Hogs after a loss after a bye week, much improved.
