Well, the start of the 2015 season begins this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix. Check it out if you get a chance. Due to the time zone difference, the race will be at a civilized time locally (NBCSN - 6:30 pm). There's a preview show "Countdown to F1" at 6:00 pm.

Formula 1’s big changes for the 2015 season

FORMULA 1’s governing body FIA has confirmed it will scrap the controversial double points finale to the season as part of a raft of rule changes for the 2015 campaign.

The decision to award double points for the season-concluding Abu Dhabi GP last year provoked outrage among F1 fans and, while it did not influence the championship outcome, has been dispensed with after just one season.

For every race in 2015, the victor will earn 25 points.

Hamilton and Rosberg's rivalry can make 2015 a classic season

Formula 1 is about to emerge from its shortest winter break for nearly 40 years, so it should be no surprise that, at a cursory glance, little may appear to have changed when the season starts in magnificent Melbourne next weekend.

If the teams have accurately interpreted the lessons of pre-season testing, we already kind of know what to expect.

World champions Mercedes have at least maintained their advantage, and quite possibly extended it. Williams, Ferrari and Red Bull will be competing to be best of the rest.

Drivers - Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso), Kevin Magnussen (McLaren), Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing)

PRESS CONFERENCE

Q: Let’s start with the defending champion. Lewis, if you’re able to successfully defend your title this year you’ll be a three-time world champion. Has that always been your career goal? Is that fair to say?

Lewis Hamilton: I would say that I always wanted to do what Ayrton did. Ayrton was my favourite driver and I guess as a kid I always wanted to emulate him.

Q: You won here in Australia back in 2008, the year you won your first title, but you haven’t won the race seen then, despite being on pole a couple of times. Can you talk about how important it is for you this year to start on the front foot, as opposed to last year where you were chasing for a while in the first part of the season?

LH: It’s the same. I don’t see a particular exaggerated importance [compared] to any other time. Of course you come here and you’d like to start on the right foot, but as I did want to last year, but there is a long, long way to go so it’s not the most important start of the year.

Australia preview - do Mercedes hold the ace cards?

Everyone has been dealt a new hand of cards for 2015, but all of Mercedes’ rivals arrive in Melbourne for the season opener convinced that the Silver Arrows will still be holding all the aces. Winter testing indicated that the new F1 W06 Hybrid has the speed to carry on where the W05 left off last year, but of course no one will really know if that’s true until Saturday’s qualifying session, when all the teams run flat-out for the first time...

“At this point in the year you don't really know what to feel as a driver,” reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton admits. “You're impatient to get back to racing but, at the same time, you never know what a new season will bring. Testing gives you a basic idea of whether the car feels good or not but, beyond that, it's anyone's game to win.

“The team have been working incredibly hard through the winter and it was great to see everyone in the factory before I left for Melbourne. I'm so thankful for everything they do and I want to show that in the best way I can out on track. We had a great season last year as a team and, of course, we'd all love to repeat that. But the others won't stop chasing us. I'm sure the competition will be close and we should get exciting racing with plenty of battling for position - which is great because that's what I love doing and that's what the fans love watching.”

Formula 1 has not forgotten Jules Bianchi as the sport lines up to start a new season: Pit Talk

Will Dale - FOX Sports
March 15, 2015

WHEN 2015’s crop of Formula 1 drivers pose for the obligatory class photo prior to Sunday’s race, there will be a familiar young face missing.

But, though he lies in a coma in a French hospital, his fellow drivers have not forgot Jules Bianchi.

Welcome to the Australian Grand Prix edition of Pit Talk.

F1’S MISSING MAN REMEMBERED
2015 should have been Jules Bianchi’s big chance. After busting his hump for two seasons in a tailender team, the Frenchman’s Ferrari connections would ensure a move up the grid to the Sauber team for the new season.

The plan tragically went wrong on October 5, 2014.

161 days later, the Formula 1 fraternity lines up on the grid at Albert Park without him. Bianchi still lies in a coma in a French hospital from the injuries sustained in his horrific crash during the Japanese Grand Prix.

His family is still holding out hope that, one day, he will wake up.

Hamilton wins Australian race of attrition

Mercedes dominated Sunday’s 2015 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton winning as he pleased from team mate Nico Rosberg. Behind them, however, there was drama aplenty as just 11 cars took the chequered flag.

Sebastian Vettel finished on the podium on his Ferrari debut, with Williams’ sole starter Felipe Massa taking fourth ahead of star rookie Felipe Nasr, who gave Sauber their first points since 2013 on his F1 debut.

With Williams’ Valtteri Bottas already ruled out of the race thanks to a back injury, and Marussia having failed to qualify, the 17 expected starters became 15 before the lights went out, after McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen and Red Bull’s Daniel Kvyat both experienced car failures en route to the grid.

There would be further casualties on the first lap. Vettel made a slow start, allowing team mate Kimi Raikkonen to pull alongside heading into Turn 1. But as the German clipped the inside kerb he was pushed across the road and inadvertently forced Raikkonen wide over the outer kerb. Delayed, the Finn came under attack from Nasr, who also had Lotus's Pastor Maldonado alongside. The trio pinched together, pitching Maldonado into the barriers. Exit another car.
