Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: Sorry; I meant to address the volleyball comment to ChadFukuoka. I thought you had created that volleyball post, so I addressed it to you instead. Anyway, I know one of his boys went to Iolani School, and the other went to your alma mater. By the way, speaking of women's volleyball: Puna...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

Wow I would hate to be an Iolani lover on this forum hahaha Disclaimer: my nephews play for Iolani and some other schools. Somewhat new to the football forums and the passion you guys have is great! If there wasn't any divisions in Football would schools like Iolani, Kalani, Damien drop their progr...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: What upsets me is that the Star-Advertiser has Iolani School ranked at #7. #7! Isn't that kind of high? I think so. I mean, I could see perhaps #10, but not #7. Especially with their smallish O-line. By the way, gopunahou, sorry about how I was venting about your alma mater winning that...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Yes, exactly; I totally agree. Iolani School is mostly about academics; I agree that that school won't compromise on that. Football is simply something "extra". And, as you say, that school sure seems to do well in most sports, which I don't like, because I don't care for tha...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: That's an interesting comment: "Iolani (School) does not recruit." So, you're saying they do recruit. Well, if they do recruit, why don't they recruit big, thick guys for their O-line? And, as for your last sentence, I ask: Why would we have to go back to the '90s to find ever...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: Well, I guess we can't say Look hasn't been successful at recruiting; Iolani School seems to be finishing as ILH D1 champ almost every year. I guess he does feel that speed is more important than size. No question, Iolani School seems to have team speed every year. But, should he pay mor...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: Well, unfortunately, I do have to admit that many guys do dislike your alma mater. And, as you know, I'm one of them. Yes, some guys even hate your alma mater, like a colleague who used to work with me (he's a Mililani alumnus). Having said that, I for one refuse to hate your alma mater....

Re: What makes some areas of Oahu/neighbor islands more successful at football than others?

@ChadFukuoka: OK; perhaps a scrawny, non-athletic teen isn't necessarily a nerd. But, whatever you call him, my point is that I don't think he'll necessarily feel any different at St Louis School than he would at any other high school. He'd probably feel like an outcast at any school. And, I'd agree...

Re: What makes some areas of Oahu/neighbor islands more successful at football than others?

@ChadFukuoka: 1. Oh, I think being co-ed makes a big difference. In high school, boys' hormones are raging. How many boys want to be at a school with no girls? Well, be that as it may, it is what it is. As for St Louis students in other sports, yeah, they probably do feel invisible, with the possibl...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: Well, I really think Look was crushed when Hilo's FG attempt succeeded. There really should have been no way Iolani was supposed to lose that game; they had been ahead almost the entire game, for one. And, as I mentioned in my previous post, Hilo made three big plays in a row to win, no...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

I know one Iolani fan who felt much better the following night. And if Look thinks that Iolani would have belonged in D2 (if it existed in the 90s) and shouldn't have played St. Louis, Punahou, and Kamehameha in the 90s, he deserves to have that happen to him. Speaking as somebody who remembers the...

Re: What makes some areas of Oahu/neighbor islands more successful at football than others?

@ChadFukuoka: Well, I'd agree that St Louis School really is a "one-trick pony"; they're very good in football, but that's about it, usually. However, we should note that they took the ILH baseball title this past season. So, I think St Louis alumni have something of a quandary: While St L...
