Re: OIA says football cancelled

This is the High School Sports forum. I'm assuming that we who are on it are concerned about the welfare of high school kids, especially those who attend our respective alma maters. I feel it's important that high schools continue to educate students, despite the pandemic. At the very least, student...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Dr Fauci, perhaps the most pre-eminent COVID authority in the nation, is warning that some states are re-opening too early, risking another surge of COVID. Granted, Hawaii isn't an egregious example. Nonetheless, COVID cases have been rising in Hawaii, in...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

We've read about high school football players who moved to the mainland over the summer, just to play in states that allowed football in the Fall. Well, what can we say? Still, only a few players did that. The vast majority of players stayed put. And, if high school football does return here in the ...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

We all know that the past "pandemic year" has been a brutal time emotionally. I suppose many alumni see reconnecting with their alma maters via sports, as one small way to ease the emotional and psychological pain; I get that. But, you can't even watch; no fans are allowed. So, how can you...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

I think this whole football "resurrection" is something of a sham, really. I mean, the "games" will be nothing but glorified scrimmages. Punahou School won't even activate its scoreboard. And this notion of a "club team" consisting of a blend of OIA schools? This is get...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

Even if the OIA gets interscholastic sports off the ground, there's so little time left in the school year. Today is already the last day of 3rd qrtr for OIA schools. Yes, I hear that some ILH schools are considering playing OIA schools. But regardless of whether OIA and ILH schools are playing with...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

I question whether "exhibition games" are worth it. Really, if regular league games are too dangerous during this pandemic, then perhaps we should just accept that sports are simply too dangerous right now, period? Having said that, it was announced that OIA schools are looking at beginnin...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

@gopunahou: I don't see how even ILH schools can have football this school year. ILH schools don't end their school year that much later than OIA schools, right? It's already mid-February; how can any school gear-up its football team, start conditioning, practice, etc? And, if so few ILH schools cou...

Re: OIA says football cancelled

Lt Gov Green said it's possible high school sports could begin in May. Two things: 1. He seemed to imply that football is out, because football attracts "giant" crowds. 2. Why bother starting high school sports in May? The last day of school for OIA schools is May 28, and seniors get done ...

Re: 2020 High School Football

I miss some aspects of HS football here and the fact that my team might not be winning. But neither are the teams I hate to see win. I always try to look on the bright side. @gopunahou: I'm assuming that the schools you hate to see win are Iolani School and St Louis School. Iolani because that's Pu...

Re: 2020 High School Football

FOUR UH football players tested positive for COVID-19 a day or two ago. We can't subject high-school kids to that risk. NO high-school football this ENTIRE school year. Yes, a few other states are having high-school football. If those states want to subject kids to COVID-19, well, shame on THEM.

Re: Way early Open/D-I Top Ten 2020 (Hope they can play.)

Looks like Kahuku suffers the biggest talent drain due to Covid disrupting life in general.Originally,I felt like Punahou,St.Louis and Kahuku formed the top tier of contenders for an Open title this season. After the exodus of players to the mainland ,I think Kahuku drops down to the second tier wit...

Re: 2021 Football Recruits

I can understand if we lock down our kids at home and relegate them to a computer screen.I don't think that is the best choice. You and I have to work for a living to feed those kids.Hawaii is under a second lockdown. I wonder how many people are jobless because of the first lockdown, and how many m...

Re: 2021 Football Recruits

Kalan Ellis OL St.Louis has received a three star rank from the scouts at Rivals. Ellis is back on the list of Hawaii's top football prospects. @unpaid: I'm glad to hear it. I'm not exactly a fan of St Louis School, but it wouldn't kill me if they were to win State Open. But, I remain quite certain...
