Re: 2020 High School Football

Newsflash: It was announced today that Spring break for public schools will be extended by one week due to the coronavirus crisis. So, public school students will not report back until March 30, as opposed to the normal March 23 date. Don't know about private schools. So, it seems sports definitely ...

Re: 2020 High School Football

If spring sports don’t resume (which is a strong possibility), I feel for the seniors who are playing spring sports. Once they graduate, that’s it. The HHSAA won’t let those kids play another year (unlike the NCAA, which’ll likely let seniors who are playing spring sports play another year). @gopun...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Let’s hope we have a handle on this by next school year. @EITSwarrior: Let's hope there'll be a next school year. This coronavirus pandemic is taking-on almost end-of-the-world proportions, it seems. My understanding is that the HHSAA might restart sports, depending on how well coronavirus is being...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Well, our worst fears have come to pass: I'm sure you guys heard that all high school sports in the state are being suspended indefinitely as of Monday, March 16. This applies to all leagues. Doesn't that suck? This coronavirus crap is threatening to bring life to a near-standstill. It's a waking ni...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Update: Now it's not only Japan that's closing schools. Washington (state) and California are now also closing some schools. If that should happen here in Hawaii, closed schools = no high school sports. Wouldn't that suck.

Re: 2020 High School Football

OK, I'm assuming you guys heard that coronavirus is here, on Oahu, as of this morning. Ain't that the friggin' pits? Let's hope it doesn't lead to the cancellation of games or even full seasons, or the closing of schools. In Japan, some schools are closing-down for a month. As of today, Damien Schoo...

Re: 2020 High School Football

HS FB Fanatic, too bad you didn’t follow us between 1997 and 2001. We had no JV team and fielded at best 60 players during those years. We also had less D1 prospects than Iolani, which had a winning record against us. Of course, that’s when Joe Igber and Donny Mateaki played for them. @gopunahou: W...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Darryl Gabriel did have something in common with Tui—football was his second sport. Anyway, I can’t imagine us declining between 2020 and 2022 (the year JK will be a senior). @gopunahou: Yes, if I recall correctly, basketball was Gabriel's main sport. As for Punahou football entering a decline, wel...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Hey, all: Today's paper said the OIA and ILH will continue to play each other this upcoming football season. So, Open survives, too. An interesting change in Open is that Leilehua will be in it. That's the only D1 school in either league that had the gonads to step-up to Open; kudos to Leilehua High...

Re: 2020 High School Football

I’d hate to see us go back to our 1997-2004 position and don’t think that’ll happen. On the subject of intermediate results, we had some good intermediate teams in the early 2000s but only experienced two winning seasons with the class of 2006 (the group that helped us snap St. Louis long streak of...

Re: 2020 High School Football

Tuileta was good and you can’t doubt his accomplishments. However, he was fortunate he played in an era when Cal Lee was at UH. Once Cal went back to St. Louis Punahou has struggled to beat them. When Cal was at UH, Punahou was the king of the ILH for @5 years. One of the best Punahou qbs I recall ...

Re: 2020 High School Football

@gopunahou: OK; sounds like St Louis will have its hands full dealing with your alma mater this coming season. But, since Punahou is in Open, they can't overlook Kahuku. I'm sure Kahuku wants to get its licks in against Punahou, and Kahuku had that good JV last season. Another school Punahou can't o...

Re: 2020 High School Football

@gopunahou: Really? Tuileta was the best QB ever? Was he that good? OK; you're a Punahou alumnus; you should know. I mean, if we go back only, say, the past 45 years of Punahou QBs, that's saying a lot. How about that Kan kid, the one who played around 2005 or so?

Re: 2020 High School Football

Konawaena is traveling to Cali to play Servite during the 2020 season per The Orange County Register. Date was not mentioned in the article. @unpaid: And, did you see today's paper? Kapolei is traveling to Texas to play Nolan Catholic on September 4. The paper said that that school was 11-1 in thei...
