Re: 2011 High School track and field

Side note: Does anyone else find it ridiculous that the state meet would be limited to 26 entries? As opposed to the previous 32? In all running events, this (assuming full fields) does not shorten the meet in any way. For events in lanes, it is still 4 heats. For the 1500, it still requires 3 heats...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

hzy- I'd like to disagree with you about Kailea Tracy-Visintainer and your thoughts on sprinting. My background comes from middle distance running, and as such, I understand how difficult it is to run extra races. You may wonder why an extra 100m can be "too much", but it can make a differ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Girls: Punahou hands down. They absolutely dominated the ILH. At champs, had Julia Brand not been DQ'd for running with the wrong number, Punahou would have had 1-4-6-7-8. When combined with the OIA, it would have been 1-5-9-11-(12/13/14). Fantastic. Plus, if I understand correctly, they are substit...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Yes, that time approximation is roughly correct for most runners. I don't think it applies to Thibodeau, maybe 20-30 seconds for him tops. To quote a coach regarding the Waialua course: "They are lucky if they run 2.8 miles on that course." Perhaps exaggeration, but essentially the course ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Let me try to explain some surprises. Mid-Pac: Iolani was traveling and several teams sat runners. Notably most MPI boys and Punahou girls. CORP: Ryan Hobson ran the course at what I would guess is tempo pace for him. He came through the first mile in almost exactly six minutes and maintained his pa...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

It varies from AD and programs but all varsity runners on my team are required to... 1) attend practice till the state meet, in order to recieve their varsity letter (even if they are a 30 min guy. Who knows he might someday become your number 4 runner). 2) every varsity runner makes the state trip...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Here's another one for you. Why is it only the 7 kids get to experience the glory? Shouldn't the rest of the team be listed, since they played a part in getting the team there. Football awards all the members at championships whether they played or not, so does volleyball and basketball. Shouldn't ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

It is official: State meet is Thursday, October 28 at CORP See here. I have heard that there are 5 California and 1 Wisconsin boys teams coming down. One of the California teams is ranked very high according to a coach who spoke with the Dana Hills (boys) coach. Any other off island runners other th...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

The age argument is not a particularly strong one. The physical maturation of typical males between the ages of 17 and 19 is not huge. In fact, most males in this age range do not grow much more. The only perceptible and significant potential for change is through increased training. As a runner dev...

Thanks run. I wasn't really sure. I had to just guess. Do you know where I can find results?

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Went to ILH meet yesterday at Waipio Soccer Complex. The run was timed, but I haven't been able to find official results yet. Here is what I got. Girls 3 mile: Kyleigh Mann of Punahou wins in a fairly close race over 2 Iolani girls in about 19:mid. Followed by a large pack of Punahou mixed with 1 Io...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

And so... now this ILH coach tells me that the coaches will likely use the "except for previously scheduled tournaments" clause in the city furlough plan. So having the state meet on Friday is still the plan. Whatever. Just wait for the official announcement. I was actually really impresse...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Very coy announcement, 800runner. I believe this information will matter to a few of us. Is this verified information though? An ILH coach told me this. He has been proven to be both reliable and wise in the past. The reason behind the move to Thursday and not Saturday that he told me is because th...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

The state meet has been moved to Thursday, October 28 because CORP will be closed due to a city furlough day. In case that matters to anyone.

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Moving JV soccer to the fall season away from the varsity season doesn't seem to make sense from a logistics standpoint. Isn't it easier for the league to just hold the JV game before the varsity? Well, I don't know much about organizing soccer so... Making pre-season predictions is difficult. Witho...
