Re: Going Back to the Spread ...

What's a "traditional spread"? Coach Johnson' offense doesn't have a TE or a blocking FB, but his is only one kind. Coach Ault's pistol uses a TE and sometimes a HB I think the Urban Meyer spread has no FB but it has a TE The real trick, again, is not to obsess with a particular role or po...

Re: Going Back to the Spread ...

Not true. A lot of spreads are running offenses. The problem with the FB is, if he's not a threat to run, you don't have to account for him. Another defender can come into the area. Look at how Oregon runs. You split out the H back wide, put him in motion. Then there's a question as to whether he wi...

Re: UH Quarterback on Defense?

Notice that JJ, then Mack/Rolo started emphasizing mobility in their QBs. I thought that was weird, for sure they'd want a pocket passer, especially since JJ trained Chang to scramble with eyes up and tiptoe up to the line of scrimmage looking for someone to throw to downfield, even with no defender...

Re: Future Opponents

UBC plays football in the NAIA (it's a level below NCAA). They are considering moving up to NCAA Division II. Technically, NAIA is a completely different organization from the NCAA. At one time it was the dominant college sports organization, but a long time ago most of the top schools left to join...

Just curious, why do you think this? Given competition is tough again this year, I think he gets 4-5, but I also think he needs a bowl game to save his job.

Re: UH wants to construct own football stadium

Right now, they have to buy the sideline seats, and it's hard to hold a conversation there. boxes work better if your goal is business promotion. Ironically, that may free up sideline seats for people who actually want to show up for games. Corporate boxes would sell...it's a status thing among the ...

Re: UH wants to construct own football stadium

This is probably the right take. The sports business is changing and attendance is important but it's the tip of the revenue iceberg. Plus with UH having its own stadium, the corporate boxes can be built in and the whole thing can be designed as a modern facility. Another thing that was mentioned in...

Re: UH wants to construct own football stadium

I believe the state needs US permission in order to change its use, and I think that there have been ideas that yes, it's in such a prime location that it does need to be redeveloped. So if UH leaves, they might ask the feds to change it to some other use altogether. Are there any thoughts about wha...

Re: TE/DE, Jordan Silva commits to UH.

Looks like he has great instincts for finding the ballcarrier, but doesn't have blazing straight line speed to get to the QB. Maybe projects to a DT or 3-4 DE?

Re: WHo would you like as a DC?

I was at the Navy-UH game. Their consensus was that their players were simply better than Army's mostly because Navy will make accommodations if a graduated player wants to turn pro - such as having the option to serve in the Navy Reserve in a PR capacity - and Army doesn't. At Army, Ellerson simply...

Re: Would Adrian Klemm be considered a candidate

yes, I know the Spread is a hybrid of the RnS but what I like more about the Spread is you can have more plays to balance the offense by using a TE and more effective running plays. Even using two back formations. I thought that hurt us many times that when we needed to slow the game down some, to ...

It's that running the option is a necessity. Of the QBs who can do it, relatively few can throw.

Re: The biggest coaching mistake chow made, that's overlooke

The losses have just as much if not more to do with the defense than the offense. The offense is scoring more points than last year, but the defense is still giving up a whole lot of points. In the last 6 games using the R&S our team scored 16, 31, 28, 21, 23 and 20 points. In our last six game...
