Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

As far as soccer, communities with more asian kids probably had youth programs since the kids were 5. This also goes for baseball. So should the high school in those areas be top tier? I never heard Farrington, Kahuku or Waianae winning the Soccer championship. To tell you the truth I never seen a d...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

Watching the ILH and OIA basketball, I see that ILH has a stricter facemask rule. OIA is wearing it on their chin? Why even wear it?

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@locomoko: Yeah; I mean, if St Louis is in Open for football and in D1 for basketball, why should they be allowed to be in D2 for soccer? But, since in ILH soccer D2 schools have to play D1 schools, why have D2 soccer in the ILH in the first place? And again, why should St Louis be allowed D2 statu...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

Also you know I'm a Kahuku fan and look forward to watching Amari Westmorland Vendiola play. Again Kahuku has a team of hustlers. Hope Akana can pull off some surprises. Leonard Ah You and Kaeo Kaio are also ballerz.

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

At this early in the BB season, polls are just, polls. I'm surprised that any football player with a decent college offer would opt to play basketball or that the college would allow it.

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

Maui Prep? #10? Interesting. Baldwin and Maui the only outer island teams in the top 10. How can Konawaena girls program excel yet the boys cant? Is there limited club play? When the city parks had boys league play, lots of players came out of these teams. Remember the Kalakaua program run by Dennis...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

Well it's too early to call any lead horse in this BB season. Of course any 2 ILH team will be in at the end. With Tolentino gone from Maryknoll, they still have a good chance. With Punahou turning in the pads early, lots of extra time for transitions from FB to bb. Iolani already touting those 2 pl...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Well, by "elite team", I take it that you're referring to Kahuku, Mililani, Kamehameha, and Punahou (in addition to St Louis). However, I don't think you can count-out schools like Campbell, Waianae, and Kapolei. Those three schools seem to be on the cusp of "eliteness&...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: How many of those turnovers were forced? I.e., how many were "punch-outs" by Kahuku defenders? And even INTs, unless Bianco threw it directly at a Kahuku DB, well, that's just good coverage by those DBs. This may surprise you, but I'm almost feeling sorry for St Louis alumni. ...

True that. Plus the OIA playoffs were keeping those teams sharp. Also this Saints team with 2 loses in the ILH was suspect.

And if I were a Kahuku fan, I'd dedicate this championship to Kona Schwenke, Pele Leiataua, Tommy Heffernan, Sr., Waika Carvalho, and David Vimahi. All cherished late members of the Kahuku ohana.
