HS Football Fanatic wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 2:15 pm Sorry; Punahou is in ILH Open, not D1. But, I expect them to take it again this coming season.
One consolation for you is that Kahuku looks to be just as tough as last year. So they might win the state open title over Punahou, if both teams make the championship game.

Re: Hawaii's Dysfunctional Divisions

How do you feel about Damien baseball, which has won two consecutive D2 titles and likely benefitted massively from playing us as well as MPI, KSK, Iolani, and St. Louis in the regular season? Good point - under the rule I've been advocating (and someone else identified as "the Dayton Rule&quo...

Re: Hawaii's Dysfunctional Divisions

Another year, another round of sandbagging success for the Crusaders! St. Louis Volleyball will play in the Div. 2 State Championship Match tomorrow night. They're led by Div. 1 State Basketball Champion & Player of the Year, Pupualii Sepulona. If a school can field Open Football and win the hi...

Re: Favorite HS football players of all time?

@BowTow: Yes, I remember Cabral as a player for Chicago. I didn't know Cabral was on that same '73 St Louis team as Matsushima. No wonder they got past Punahou that year; that year, Punahou had RB Mosi Tatupu, one of the greatest RBs in Hawaii high school history. Of course, he went on to become a ...

Re: Kamehameha on the rise in ILH

What a Spring for KS-Kapalama: conquered the ILH gauntlet in Baseball, took down Iolani in Softball, unseated Punahou in Girls Water Polo, and distancing from Punahou in Boys Volleyball. Something's clicking in Kapalama Heights. @locomoko: True, and I'd assume Kamehameha alumni are stoked about it....

Re: HS Football Fanatic

Kamehameha alumni have a reason to be ticked about yesterday's softball game between Kamehameha and Iolani. Kamehameha was up, 11-9, when Iolani came-up to bat in the bottom of the final inning. Iolani jammed the sacks. An Iolani batter hit a liner to right, which allowed the runner on third to sco...

Re: HS Football Fanatic

@ChadFukuoka: True, that. Back in the '70s, Damien and St Louis were the only all-boys Catholic schools on Oahu; You could call it the "all boys Catholic school rivalry." I'm convinced that that's why they were such fierce rivals from then until the 2000s, when classification often preven...

Re: HS Football Fanatic

Another amazing development occurred in high school sports today: Damien beat St Louis in baseball, 4-1. On one level, it was just another regular-season ILH baseball game; yet if you look at it closely, it meant so much more. Let's look at the many ways that this game reverberated: 1. From St Loui...

Re: HS Football Fanatic

Hello, all. Today, something so shocking happened in high school baseball that I simply had to "unretire" again to post it. Those of you who follow baseball have likely already heard about it. Today, Iolani lost to Mid-Pac, 18-1. No, that's not a typo. Now, Mid-Pac is a good team, but Iol...

Re: 2022-2023 Wrestling Season

@808WrestlingFan: I have my doubts about Kamehameha. They were supposed to win the State team title this year and last year, but failed both times. True. But Kamehameha has a ton of kids at their disposal. All competing for and starting spot. That will always make them a threat. If a team was ever ...

Re: HS Football Fanatic

Hello, all. I'd like to come-out of "retirement" again to report two amazing developments in boys' volleyball and girls' water polo. In boys' volleyball, HBA beat Punahou's D1 this past Tuesday, 3-1. (HBA doesn't have a D2 team.) To properly understand the magnitude of this upset, be awar...

Terahiti Wolfe - Punahou to Kahuku Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa - Kapolei to Kahuku Diezel Kamoku - Kapolei to Kahuku Sitani Mikaele - Rancho Cucamonga to Kahuku Losing Terahiti hurts. I hope more kids from Punahou don’t follow him out. Not sure what Punahou's roster will look like when the season starts,...

Why hasn't a school on the west side of Oahu won a state football championship at the highest division?

I was just wondering this. Campbell, Waipahu, and Kapolei have 3 of the highest student enrollments in the state. But Waipahu is in D1, not Open, and Campbell and Kapolei are decent every year, but not quite at the level of Kahuku or Mililani. There are a lot of good young football prospects in the ...

I think the field at 138 will be loaded. Returning placers: Labuanan(1st), Taam(1st), Amerson(5th)... Others of note: Paaluhi(WAN), Woolsey(KPO) 152: Might have Mercado(1st), Erolin(1st), Goeas(CAS) 195: Kane-Keahi(2nd), Maika Kahele-Akeo(3rd) 285: Dikilato(1st), Coelho(2nd), Lauifi(3rd) I'm 1000% ...

Re: 2022 Open/D-I Top Ten

All of what you said. I don’t think they gave us many chances to run our bread-and-butter plays. We only threw the deep ball a couple of times and still couldn’t find any rhythm. I think that’s one of the reasons we didn’t use Alai too much tonight, since we’d fallen behind 17-0 before the half end...
