Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

Off local hs subject, but watching Mater Dei vs.Servite live on Bally sport was an eye opener. Mater Dei defense is huge and fast. Hard to believe this is high school. I think Mater Dei is ranked #1 in the country. Imagine if St Louis has played them to open the season, like they at one point were ...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Well, it's more complicated than that. First of all, I draw a distinction between a team and a school. I don't dislike teams; I dislike schools. And, I dislike schools that win a lot in many sports. Kahuku High wins a lot, but usually only in football. Yes, their girls' volleyball tea...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@TheNewNORM: Yeah, they might as well play at Farrington's stadium. Mililani will whip them no matter where they play. No amount of home-field advantage will help Farrington enough. I say that reluctantly, as I like Farrington High, while I don't particularly like Mililani High. But, things are wha...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Well, Kailua beating Castle was certainly an upset, especially by that 17-point margin. Castle alumni must be especially pissed because, 1.) Again, it was an upset. 2.) It was Castle's homecoming, which of course is for the alumni. 3.) Kailua High is Castle High's biggest rival, and h...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Well, Kailua beating Castle was certainly an upset, especially by that 17-point margin. I think Roosevelt alumni must be pissed. Roosevelt goes up 21-0, but ends-up losing 27-21? I mean, that sucks. That's unbelievably bad; there's just no other way to describe it. Roosevelt alumni mu...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Your alma mater, Aiea, is something of a "ninja" dark horse; they kind of sneak-up on other schools. Yes, I think they could beat Waipahu; it's not too great a stretch. But, I would consider it an upset. Speaking of upsets: At the moment, Roosevelt is kicking Moanalua's butt...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@unpaid: Good stuff. The only pick that might be wrong is Aiea winning. Something tells me Waipahu is pissed about losing to Castle, and will take it out on Aiea. Plus, Waipahu was ranked. Also, Kalani might give Nanakuli a good rub with their pass game. The winner of the Aiea-Waipahu game plays Mo...

Re: 2021-2022 Wrestling Season

@ChadFukuoka: Guess so. I don't know, though. I mean, when I watched the state high school wrestling championships on TV before the pandemic hit, there seemed to be quite a bit of interest. The championships were held at NBC, and there seemed to be a lot of enthusiasm. Regarding those big farm boys...

Re: 2021-2022 Wrestling Season

@ChadFukuoka: Well, to be perfectly honest, I don't watch women's wrestling, not even on the high school level. But, if the University of Iowa has it, why shouldn't UH have it? I mean, it's not like the University of Iowa is superior to UH in all sports. For example, I'm sure UH could beat Iowa in ...

Re: 2021-2022 Wrestling Season

Clarissa Chun first women's coach of Iowa, the first D1 wrestling program to introduce a women's team! :hello1: @OldManJenkins: Yes, I remember seeing that in the paper. She's a Roosevelt alumna, I believe. I think she lives in Mililani, so I don't know why she didn't go to Mililani High. I think s...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

I've heard from a quite reliable source today that Cal and Ron Lee are retiring after this football season. gopunahou: Here's something that's guaranteed to tick you off. Today's Star-Advertiser football poll has Iolani ranked ahead of your alma mater. They have Iolani ranked #6, and Punahou ranked...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@TheNewNORM: Oh, really? What happened? And of course, Kahuku High's field is out of commission, too. But, there are tons of other public high schools on Oahu that have a stadium. Again, HHSAA should pick the one with the most parking. If that’s the case, then Mililani would be a good choice. Not b...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

I think when the regular OIA Open season is over, the undefeated team is crown OIA champs. Then they can play the post season for placement in the States. Yes I'm a RR fan and yes the RR has been playing in everybodies house just hoping OIA playoffs are at a neutral field like Farrington. Hopefully...
