Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@gopunahou: Well, you know that unfortunately I dislike your alma mater, so yes, I hope they finish with a losing record. But, it doesn't matter that it hasn't happened since '91, right? After all, history doesn't play; it's the players on the team this year, who play. Each year is a new year, and ...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@locomoko: Yeah; I mean, if St Louis is in Open for football and in D1 for basketball, why should they be allowed to be in D2 for soccer? But, since in ILH soccer D2 schools have to play D1 schools, why have D2 soccer in the ILH in the first place? And again, why should St Louis be allowed D2 statu...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@ChadFukuoka: That's right; Aiea is also green and white. I don't know, but I'd be surprised if there were any correlation between the size of a school and whether that school is good in sports other than football. I suspect it's indeterminate. I mean, Maryknoll is a small school, but they need to ...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@ChadFukuoka: Yeah, Maui Prep is a relatively new private high school (well, I think they're actually K-12). I think they were established about 2005. Their nickname is Pueo (that's Hawaiian for Owls, like Mid-Pac Institute). I think their colors are green and white. So they have many similarities ...

Re: HS Hoops 2021-2022

@TheNewNORM: The Star-Advertiser actually has Maui Prep ranked #9. Regarding Konawaena, well, just because the girls' team is good, doesn't necessarily mean the boys' team is, too, right? It might be coaching, or, simply that the boys aren't as talented as the girls. Look at the Kahuku girls' volle...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@gopunahou: I could just hear Kapaa saying, "Bring on Iolani!" As a Punahou alumnus, I'd bet you'd like to see it happen! I would, too, as I don't care for Iolani School, either. Wouldn't it be something to see the (Kapaa) Warriors make the Raiders eat humble pie! I mean, could you imagin...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

Kapaa leads 61-7, in the 4th quarter. If the score holds, is this the biggest margin of victory in a state title game, at any level?

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

Kapaa 38-0 halftime. This will be the first state championship for the island of Kauai. Kapaa with 5 touchdowns, 4 two point conversions. I’m assuming they don’t have a reliable place kicker, and just go for two every time. I can’t imagine Kapaa blowing this. Should they win, it’ll be great not onl...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@ChadFukuoka: Well, by "elite team", I take it that you're referring to Kahuku, Mililani, Kamehameha, and Punahou (in addition to St Louis). However, I don't think you can count-out schools like Campbell, Waianae, and Kapolei. Those three schools seem to be on the cusp of "eliteness&...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

@Gridiron88: Oh, absolutely. They can attend not only Kahuku High, but Mililani High or Kamehameha Schools (if they have Hawaiian blood). Mililani lost to St Louis by only 2 points, and Mililani is also JV champs, so they're looking like they'll be decent next season. Kamehameha beat St Louis twice...

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

The trend continues--only twice has a team with three or more losses won a top-level state championship since 1973. What two teams would that be? 1993 St. Louis and 2007 Leilehua. I remember 1993 because that was the year four ILH teams tied for first. And who could forget the heroics of Andrew Man...

There’s 9 minutes left in the 4th, so Kahuku should coast to a title.

Re: Open/D-I Top Ten 2021

Well, just gonna call it now. I know nothI got lasts forever, but it still sucks when the end comes. (who knows, punahou may even beat us again one day  Respect to Kahuku, what an okole kicking. This is a tough one to take. If you gonna lose you never want to get blown out like that. Kahuku lo...
