Re: 2020 High School Football

Tuileta was good and you can’t doubt his accomplishments. However, he was fortunate he played in an era when Cal Lee was at UH. Once Cal went back to St. Louis Punahou has struggled to beat them. When Cal was at UH, Punahou was the king of the ILH for @5 years. One of the best Punahou qbs I recall i...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

That game was sad to watch. Maryknoll definitely played better last night, but I felt bad for Kamehameha because they were the top dog all season. Without Togiai that was a different team. It’s weird how for the past 4-5 years the championship games have all been lopsided. I hope Togiai’s injury wil...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

The consolations games don’t mean too much because once a team loses, some coaches let their bench players get more time. So Baldwin beating Leilehua by a lot isn’t a true indicator of how good the teams are. As for Maryknoll and damien, I didn’t see the game but I’m guessing Damien wasn’t at their ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

The playoffs are always messed up. I’m not doggin the neighbor island teams, but it’s crazy how they are always ranked so high. Sometimes there is a really good team from Lahainaluna or Hilo, but most times they would be average compared to ILH or the top OIA teams. I don’t understand why they get s...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

That Moanalua v. Damien game was fun to watch. That’s what the state tournament is all about. Just wondering if the Moanalua parent or parents that complained about their head coach at the beginning of the season (the reason he was let go), are happy with how the season went. They didn’t do much bet...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

As with all high school teams, all it takes is an off night and your out. Another factor is injuries. Kamehameha is one sprained ankle from not being the top dog. As for Moanalua, the team goes as Robinson goes. If he’s off, they don’t do very well. If he’s on, they can compete with anyone. Unfortun...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

Go Punahou - I don’t think carnival had anything to do with their loss. The carnival started today and the game was played yesterday. I just don’t think they were as good as previous years. Without them making the state tournament, this made me wonder when was the last time either Punahou and Iolani...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

HSFF - not sure if this rumor is true but I heard Damien is having issues regarding scholarships. Sounds like one of the players left the school. I didn’t hear this first hand so I don’t know if it’s true. But if it is, then I would say it’s between Punahou and St. Louis for the third birth. Also, d...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

I agree with you guys about St. Louis. They have a chance of making the state tournament, but they do have to bring their A game every night. If they have a weakness, it’s that they aren’t as deep as some of the other teams. I think they lost to mid-pac because it was 2 days after losing a heart bre...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

HSFF - Regarding McKinley, I have to be honest and admit I haven’t watched them play. I just saw they were 11-11 overall, and 4-5 in league play. You’re right that them being in D2 doesn’t mean anything. They were D1 not too long ago so them moving down was the reason i didn’t think they were that s...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

HSFF - I just want balance. If an ILH team wins, that will make 3 years in a row. Kamehameha hasn’t won in awhile, and having Ng there definitely helps there chances. But if Kahuku can pull it out, it would nice. I don’t have a dog in the fight, so I’ll be happy for whoever wins. As for McKinley, so...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

HSFF - Don’t get me wrong Akana is doing a solid job at Kahuku. For me, when I look at their schedule they have 2 quality wins (Moanalua and Kalaheo). As for the rest of the games, I’m sure Kahuku was favored in those (some are against Div 2 teams). That’s why I want to see them playing the top comp...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

Doc Is the top of the basketball mountain because he has multiple state titles. If Akana wins 4-5 more, he will definitely be in that conversation. Akana has definitely elevated Kahuku basketball and is taking steps up the mountain. He is definitely the best at recruiting players from outside the st...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

HS Football Fanatic - I totally agree a good coach gets the most out of his/her players. However, there are a lot of people who claim a coach is good or bad by their win/loss record. I don’t think this is right, but I know this is really common. If Akana coached at a school with no athletes, didn’t ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20

After watching Akana the past couple of years, I’m still trying to figure out how good he is as a coach. Don’t get me wrong, he’s gets results and wins ball games. However, I’m not sure if it’s because his coaching or because his recruiting. His first year he had 3 D1 players in his starting lineup ...
