UH-UMass To Play Football Series In 2016, ’17
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i and the University of Massachusetts have agreed to play a home-and-home football series in 2016 and ’17.
The teams will play Nov. 26, 2016 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu and Oct. 7, 2017 in Amherst, Mass.
The schools have never met on the football field.
The 2017 game in Amherst will mark the furthest east a UH football team will play a game at more than 5,000 miles. The previous record was 4,955 miles for a 2010 game at Army in West Point, N.Y. The game will also mark only the ninth time UH will play in the Eastern Time Zone.
Last season, the Rainbow Warriors travelled to Navy to play a non-conference game in Annapolis, Md.
UMass is currently a member of the Mid-American Conference but will leave the conference after the 2015 season. The Minutemen began a two-year Football Bowl Subdivision transitional period in 2011 and were bowl eligible in 2013.
