Re: Mascot
Once the team starts winning the fans and support come back. They will have the money to get a Warrior like Vili. I think that the students should do it.
“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
Re: Mascot
I wonder if we are the only div I team currently without a mascot
Re: Mascot
You mean you have to pay to get a mascot?

Re: Mascot
Vili was a personality. If the team will stay as "Rainbow Warriors" I would not mind seeing this guy back again. I can't find an actual pic on line. It was before JJ time.
But maybe do a casting call for a guy that can play it up, with some personality.

Re: Mascot
Stanford is still "struggling" with the team name and mascot. There those alumni that still want the team to be "Stanford Indians." Not "Stanford Cardinals." Some alumnis still refuse to donate to the school because of the change in name. The Indians were badass. Cardinals are a wimpy bird. But the Indian mascot later on often was painted to be cute and comical. Perhaps if they made the Indian look mean, strong, and tough, then the PC pressure would be less, maybe.
I totally understand the PC world today. I'm a bit surprise Hawaii has not face any pressure to be PC. Clearly....Warriors or Rainbow Warriors got an ethnicity to it. So going along the side of the mascot to be entertaining, I hope someone does not find it offending.

wasn't there some kind of threat made to the mascot and why we did away with him?cabanalane wrote:Vili was a personality. If the team will stay as "Rainbow Warriors" I would not mind seeing this guy back again. I can't find an actual pic on line. It was before JJ time.

Re: Mascot
I didn't read that one, but that was the same story.
I don't see him any more offense than Vili.
I'm all for treating people right and with respect. But sometimes PC goes too far.
I was proud to have him as the mascot for UH, when I was at UH and all the small kid years.

Norm tried the is with 2 different styles of Warriors, both lasted 1 game each. Vili the Warrior, often imitated, never duplicated.KanakaMaoli96792 wrote:can't we just have someone from the Polynesian culture center or paradise cove commit to doing something for UH? we need excitement!!

Re: Mascot
Drop the Rainbow and go to Warriors. Then find a Warrior to represent the university!
What a Warrior looks like has many interpretations, but I think it should be a blend of many Polynesian types or something original, no more rainbows.

Mahalos [*]Red Gun[/color] for the update!!!
