Change Needed in Mililani !!
Change Needed in Mililani !!
Everyone has seen how successful Mililani's High School football program has become. But, what has become a disturbing fact is that it has come at the expense of Mililani's home grown talent. As a parent of a student/athlete who attends Mililani, it has become very upsetting that the administrators of the school have been granting "football players" from other schools district exceptions at will. This comes at the expense of our homegrown student/athletes. Currently, about 20 junior varsity players have decided to not participate in varsity football because of all the new faces that have been brought in to "Win". The coaches of Mililani are also the coaches of a big boy program called Mill Vill Trojans and use this avenue to bring in other players. Why is this being allowed? Is this the win at all cost attitude we want to install in our community? As a parent it hurts to see your child work his but off for a program that he loved as a child to want to walk away from a sport because coaches do not have faith in our community athletes. I am only one parent however many have quietly voiced there concern about this matter. Please let your voices be heard here! It is time to put a stop to this.
Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
Sorry to hear that Monster, but not surprised. The "R" word has been linked to Mililani for several years now. It is sad that the school admin. seem to be fine with bringing in talent as long as they win. Maybe you and other parents need to address your concern to the OIA/DOE? Would like to know abbout how many transfers they accepted to play sports there.
Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
Might as well they join the ILH and compete with punahou and saint Louis for recruiting! seems like Rob York is desperate to win
Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
Does this surprise anyone? Which high school is York a graduate of? Iolani, the school that recruits the MOST. Anyone who disagrees with the FACT that Iolani recruits is an idiot.

Malepeai and Milton graduate next year. Plus the OIA "sit out" transfer rule kicks in next year as well. Things will return to normal after this season.
Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
Ever since York took over there been more and more poly kids on the team. Even with the new rule kicking in next year I still think York will find ways to get the players he needs

Playing for your community has long gone out the window and it will never return!!!
Its all about the ship, scholarship that is. Parents are becoming more savy and realize your community will do nothing for you in the future so they are placing their kids where they feel will provide the most exposure or opportunity to get a free education. Cant really say i blame anyone for going that route.
The community will base their support on the person you are and not. who you played for

Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
The 1yr "sit out" rule will just force parents to think long term and get their kids transfered to Mililani in the 8th grade instead of waiting till 11th or 12th grades. The ILH has been playing by that rule for years and that is why the ILH coaches hit the pop-warner scene early so that the kid can be eligible to play starting the 9th grade. York is doing the same... hitting the pop-warner scene so that he can get his kids transfered in earlier rather then later.
Double edged sword, the parents out side the district see opportunity at Mililani but the parents in-district end up getting the short end of the stick.

Same thing happened at Kaiser with Miano. We'll see how Kaiser does this year with less transfers as before and Miano/Ikei guys slowly leaving.

Re: Change Needed in Mililani !!
always good to have competition for football and glad that oia team won title lastyear instead of ILH
yup mililani is win at all cost even have to recruit. my friend chad ikei say coaches are in it for 3 resons
1 for money 2 for glory 3 for the kids
mililani win at all cost means coaches in it for the glory, even the radford coaches transfer to mill because more glory at milll, what happend to helping out your own kids? last mill coach that was in it for the kids was millwod and he give it his whole heart to the homegrown kids. feel sory for the homegrown mill kids that get pushed aside for the recruits, mill parents gotta speak up and protest and get ur voice heard, no shame just do it like our kahiuku parents protest and petition no matter the outcome atleast principal and public hear your voice and think twice next time
i know mill soccer parents are territorial and if transfer student come in and start over their kid they make big scene!

All the talk about recruiting .coach york hasn't recruited anyone.they come because of cousins, friends,or uncles coaching nothing wrong with that . If you think because you from mililani your spot on the team is automatic your wrong.walking away from the team doesn't prove anything other than when it gets tough you give up.why not give all you got an let the coaches see your heart is in it.And those of you spreading rumors and trying to upset this community it won't work were behind coach york 100 percent.Go trojans

Ma'a should be the head coach he is 100% dedicated to the kids of Mililani because he is one of them and a prime example that you can make it to high levels without having to surround yourself with all the best talent. This is a different generation though and its not about what I can do for the community but what the community can do for me so now we see parents sending their kids all around this Island, damn they even moving to the mainland for better opportunity.

Exactly who are the "recruits" on the Mililani team? Those "brought in to "Win""??

I think the next 2 years of trojan football will be interesting. you guys lost a lot to graduation last year. even with McKenzie and Malepeai, there's no guarantee of a 2nd championship, especially with the True football powerhouses of Big Red and St Louis looking to get back on track After this year, next year looks even less promising for trojan football, but time will tell; you're a smart guy, so like someone else pointed out, you'll figure out a way to make the DE's work in your favor. RRFL!
