Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
These are rather unsophisticated observations that shouldn't be revelations to either staff:
WHEN SAINT LOUIS IS ON OFFENSE
Keys for Saint Louis
1. Run and run often at the 3-3-5 base.
Saula (everyone should know about him) and Kaumatule are ferocious run defenders, but if you can't make hay against a 3-3 front with an offensive line that features Ulu-Perry and averages over 275 pounds per man, you might as well pack it in. Ron Lee seems to value RB Silofau's contributions, so it would behoove him to call a game that is close to 50/50 run/pass
2. Attack the safeties with the slots, don't always expect to win the 1 v. 1 battles against Lakalaka and Moeai.
The bread and butter of Saint Louis' offense is making linebackers chase quicker slots, but Punahou has the personnel to severely limit the damage done on 3-yard routes.
Keys for Punahou
1. Crowd the middle of the field.
You have to respect Kobayashi on the outside, but I'd take my chances with Nunuha and Searle, especially since Tagovailoa is not a pinpoint passer on sideline fade routes. The most dangerous routes for the Crusaders this season have been the SB 12-yard in-route, the SB seam route and the WR post.
2. Don't let Tagovailoa's legs beat you
Punahou did a fantastic job of this last time around, but the rule remains. They need to keep an eye on the backfield even if Saint Louis starts to successfully stretch Punahou horizontally with the slots.
WHEN PUNAHOU IS ON OFFENSE
Keys for Punahou
1. Pound the rock.
Saint Louis simply doesn't have the personnel to hold up on between-the-tackles runs. Dives and traps should work well against the underwhelming DTs and MLB.
2. Feed the beast
Get Kanawai Noa the damn ball. Kale Ane understands this type of concept better than any other coach in the state.
Keys for Saint Louis
1. Take away the Kanawai streak.
Gotta put a guy over the top. This is basically ground zero.
2. Take away the SB hitches and hooks.
Don't get me wrong, Taulapapa can be a scary player when attacking the flats, but it's a harder throw to make and I'd rather make Taulapapa earn ten yards then to just give a Punahou slot a dozen.

Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
Its going to be a high scoring game and the St Louis D does enough to get the W.
Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
The Crusaders will be without Cui due to a leg injury and Silofau is questionable due to a concussion suffered against Kamehameha. Keanu Souza, Rico Salas and sophomore Lelan will be the slots rotating. Look for Colton Nascimento and Spencer Johnson also getting in the mix.

Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
High scoring game but Punahou pulls away in the 2nd half...
Buffs 49
Saints 31
Buffs 49
Saints 31
Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
Punahou shuts out Saint Louis till mercy rule where they start playing their 2nd and 3rd string guys...since it looks like it's gonna be raining coach Ane would probably shoot for mercy rule before half to get his guys out of the rain
Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
Btw the first game between them the Buffs had mercy rule before half...the clock managers didn't run the clock because it was so early lol...you guys say different team now but it doesn't change the fact on how PUNAHOU is just straight up dominant on both sides of the ball....kam gets a lucky 7 on their first position and that was it...the buffs crumpled them up like trash and threw it away....next game saints and kam, pretty good game till the 4th....lol trust just coz the louis collected some d-2 wins doesn't change the FACT they more than likely will get SMASHED by the #1 team in the state and should probably be too 5 in the country...
Re: Saint Louis vs Punahou
Great points but punahou actually runs a 3-4-4 not 3-3-5 . Also when mentioning their d-line look at Soa at NT that kid is the destroying of runs and a beast on screen plays. The LB's for punahou are: Look, Lakalaka, Moeai, Chung, and they are all starters and would be the best line backer individually on almost any other team in the state.saynotomercs wrote:These are rather unsophisticated observations that shouldn't be revelations to either staff:

May be the best game of the season in Hawaii. All levels of football considered.
