$1.3M to play at ASU in 2026

Not bad.

The University of Hawaii will receive its largest contracted guarantee ever for a road game, $1.3 million, for a 2026 football appearance at Arizona State.

The previous high was $1.1 million for the 2015 game at Ohio State. UH’s other million-dollar paydays were at Wisconsin (2015) and Michigan (2016). UH pays its travel expenses out of the guarantee.

The Sept. 19, 2026 game will mark UH’s first trip to Tempe, Ariz., since 1958. It will be the first meeting between the two schools overall since the 2006 Hawaii Bowl.

ASU, which is not scheduled to play in Honolulu, leads the series 5-2.

In addition, UH has added a home-and-home series with New Mexico State, with the Aggies coming to Aloha Stadium in 2020 and UH going to Las Cruces, N.M., in 2021.

The Rainbow Warriors lead the series 8-0.

In other changes, the 2020 game at Arizona will be moved to Aug. 29 in Tucson. It had originally been scheduled for Sept. 5, 2020.

UH said it has also added single games versus Football Championship Subdivision teams Portland State in 2021 (Sept. 4) and Duquesne in 2022 (Sept. 20). Both games will be played in Honolulu.

UH needs the money. Seriously. Good deal.

8 years from now, 1.3M may be a small amount for a "Body Bag" game

Deals (schedule) are made that far off in advance? How will both teams be like? Will it even be worthwhile?

Lot's of local transplant guys living in AZ, so it'll sell tickets. Oh, that's what it is about.

So no doubt the Football program will be around in 2026..

8 years from now (2026) we will still be playing in a rusted Aloha Stadium, coming up with ideas of locations for a new stadium, waiting for the completion of the Rail, Kahuku will have their 8th new HC, Dru Brown will return as the OC and Hawaii will be recruiting a QB named Rolovich :)

The upper seating at a rusted Aloha Stadium will be closed off, not because of dwindling attendance, but because of the safety issues with the rust. The State still can't decide where to put up a new stadium and will commission yet another study. Rail will be up and running, but only from East Kapolei to the Airport. Kahuku's carousel of head coaches continues with the hire of Norm Chow. Rolo will finally tell his friend Brian Smith that he's not cut out to be OC, and demotes him to running back coach.

ASU is not a body bag game. In fact, ASU is mid-PAC12 team that just fired their coach. Also, we beat them the last time we played them and it's a very winnable game. This is great, since Tempe is only 30 mins from my house, but that's still 8 years from now.

So you are saying Nick Rolo would want his son to play for UH, when he is coaching somewhere else?
