Does anyone have any leads whom Gib Arnold was recruiting for USC? Any chance any of them would consider Hawaii?
How about his assistants too?

Should be interesting to see if this timely hiring indeed helps recruiting. I don't see Arnold being able to pull in SIX quality recruits with such little time left. I can realistically see two jucos and two high school guys. The team will play short for one season and Arnold will have a full year to reel in his first monster class next season.

Being let go by USC might have been the best thing to happen to Gib Arnold.
Only a couple of weeks after his dismissal as an assistant basketball coach, Arnold was hired earlier this week to be the head coach at the University of Hawaii.
"Now I've got to work," Arnold said Wednesday afternoon while scouting Westchester High players at a Comets practice. "Got to get some guys."
Arnold, 41, called returning to Hawaii "a dream come true" because he played high school basketball in the state at Punahou School, where he was an All-American. His father, Frank Arnold, was the Rainbows' coach from 1985-87.
"I always thought it would be great if I could take my family back there and now it's happened, so I couldn't be more excited," he said.
Arnold, who spent the last five years at USC under Tim Floyd and then Kevin O'Neill, said he has been recruiting nonstop since his hiring a few days ago. The Rainbows have five scholarships to fill for next season.
"We've got quite a bit of work to do," he said.
Don't be surprised if a Westchester player ends up crossing the Pacific Ocean for college; none of the Comets has signed a letter of intent.

Re: 2009 to 2011 UH Men's Basketball Recruiting
Regarding the news article of Coach Arnold on LA Times, searched and looked at videos of some of the Senior prospects on the Westchester Comets high school team in Los Angeles.
Dwayne Polee / Forward / 6'7" 190
(Recruited by Georgia, Oregon, UNLV, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State & USC)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_rN7o9gC4g
Kareem Jamar / Guard/ 6'4" 180
(Recruited by Montana - Solid Verbal)

(Highlight at 1:42 of video)
Jordin Mayes / Guard / 6'1" 170
(Recurited by Arizona - Solid Verbal / Also by Boston College, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Saint Mary's, San Diego, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Utah & Washington State)

Reggie Murphy / Forward / 6'9" 230
(Recruited by Oklahoma, TCU & Marquette)

All these players would definitely help next year.
Polee looks like the long shot with all those big schools recruiting him, but he was being recruited by USC. Kid has crazy hops and I would love to see him catching alley-oops at the SSC. Murphy would definitely help us in the inside with his shot-blocking ability and rebounding. And maybe you could get the other guards out of their verbals with a good pitch.
It would be a great start to the recruiting to get any of these kids. We can only hope. Wonder what high schools/colleges Coach Arnold visits while in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Idaho, in addition to Southern California??? I'm guessing while in Idaho, Arnold visits the College of Southern Idaho, his last head coaching gig, to see prospects Guard/Forward Carrick Felix (Duke - Solid Verbal) and Center Aziz N'diaye (Recruited by Loyola Marymount, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Washington, Colorado & Kansas).
But first, let's see who he hires as assistants in the next few days. Ganot should strongly be considered.

Aziz N'diaye would be a huge get. he is 7 feet and averaged 27 points 12.5 rebounds per game. Looks like he is being recruited by Kansas and Illinois

6'10" center commits to UH
His name is Vander Joaquim.
He originally signed w/ Nebraska last season ('09) but didn't qualify so he went to Southern Utah for a season. He has to earn his degree this summer and if he does, he should have 3 years of eligibility to play for the Warriors.
Joaquim is originally from Angola and has ties w/ Roese.
Started training w/ Angola's national team when he was a teenager.
Came to the United States as a HS junior in 2007.
Averaged around 9 pts, 7 rebs as a Freshman at Eastern Utah.

Sportsbow, can you add Leonard Washington to the recruits list. Thanks dude.

Darn! I thought I added him to the list when I posted about him in his thread. I guess it didn't go through when I clicked post at that time.ksmooth21 wrote:Sportsbow, can you add Leonard Washington to the recruits list. Thanks dude.
Thanks for the heads up.

I really, really like this player MALACHI ROBERTS out of WA. watching his game tapes, looks like he could contribute to us right away. I hope we can extend a scholarship to this player.
