Favorite Hawaii High School Running Back of All-Time
Favorite Hawaii High School Running Back of All-Time
Who do you consider to be your favorite RB of all-time in Hawaii high school football? Keep in mind that this is not necessarily who you consider to be the "best" or "top" RB, but rather who was the most memorable to you? Note - you can name more than one.

Boyd Yap from Kaiser. I remember seeing the Kaiser games as a kid and hearing the stadium announcer say, "Yap at the 40, Yap at the 30, Yap, Yap, Yap!" It was always the Boyd Yap show.
Mark Atuaia from Kahuku. I couldn't believe the yardage that he racked up from game to game. He was dominant.

I've seen a lot of football over the years, but I have to go recent and pick Harry Tuimaseve from Farrington. I really like that guy as a runner.

actually, if only he graduated on time, he was held back a year after st.louis took him from kahuku his 7th or 8th grade yearMoreCoffeeLessSleep wrote:
ornellas was a beast, too bad he had to be a part of the vonappen years... bad timing... if only he graduated a few years later...
he shouldve grad in 94 then been under wagner in the 95 UH season, but instead he grad 95 and the von oppen era started in 96.
nevertheless in the 95 prep bowl george ran circles around kahukus D but the red raiders still held strong with solid play from steve laulu (safety) and kautai olevau (LB) I think kautai was the only LB in High School that year that could stand up chirs maafala toe-to-toe, maafala ran over the rest of kahukus LB's like a truck going thru a wall.
My favorite running backs in Hawaii HS are...
Full back - Chris Maafala (trucking LB's in HS, college, and pro's)
RB - George Ornellas cause he had the jukes to go around and over defenses
Mark atuaia was great but he had huge holes, ran 10yds before anyone made first contact.

Hawaii High School Football For Life
Most of those mentioned I got to watch live and they all had the gift to run. I remember my dad taking me to the old stadium to watch Punahou. Mosi Tatupu would be running down the sideline with players on his back and still take it to the house. Watching him did it for me, I was hooked on the game for life. I couldnt wait to be of age to get a uniform on.

FYI....Josh "Zeus" White transferred from Radford after his junior season to Farrington for his senior season....joining Talbert (sp?) Kahakai in Gov backfield.95 Boyz wrote:Yes he went to Farrington.
